Leadership

Didn’t Brown say something about wanting to take a more active role in leadership on the team? I think it was in that recent article about him being bigger and stronger this year. It may be possible that he can follow in Beason’s footsteps and become a leader in his second year, that is of course if plays up to Beason’s standards.

Brown needs to worry about getting on the field first instead of being a situational player.

No, Gamble will not be as big of a blow as Beason going down. Beason might be the best 4-3 MLB in the game and is the sole leader of this defense.

Gamble is a streaky and overrated CB.....but the best we got.

Carolina didn't have depth at S or proven NFL players.....they traded a starting S for a backup LB, so how is that buiding the best possible depth?

Really? So who replaces Gamble?

BTW, they didn't have a proven guy to replace Minter either, and nobody here had any idea how good or bad Chris Harris would end up being. The lesson here is to wait and see before you throw a hissy.

Maybe when they say they draft for the Best Player Availible, they actually mean it?

the BPA avaliable wasn't Pike for Carolina. Not based on our team and the way the draft went. Especially, look back and that Hurney was trying to dump Harris. Rolle was a no brainer over Pike.

So you had access to the Panthers draft board? Do you have a copy?

If you put a team on the field w/ Marshall/Captain on the field the change won't be as significant as if you took Beason off.

You wait and see if it is one or two things.....Carolina is just dumping and preparing for after 2010. I would have no problem sitting back if the majority of the fanbase could accept that reality. Again, that ain't tanking that is building for future teams.

The Panthers could have drafted 2 RBs and 5 QBs if you only look BPA. You have to look at needs in addition to BPA.

So you are saying it made since to draft Pike over Rolle? Knowing what they were about to do at S?

Who cares who leads the secondary? As long as they communicate well with each other and do their individual jobs, they will be just fine.

As far as I'm concerned, getting Martin on the field was a must for this style of defense, and they will be better for it, regardless of who the "leader" is.

Of course it matters who leads the secondary and makes the reads. You need a guy who understands the game, studies opponents, and best of all understands our defense and what Meeks wants inside and out. Harris came here from a Cover 2 defense in Chicago and knew what to do the day he arrived.

And it is fine to get all your playmakers on the field as long as you have depth behind them to take care of the inevitable injuries. The biggest problem is that neither Godfrey or Martin have ever played SS. So now we have at least one more guy learning a position he has never played and is expected to lead the defense.

More a recipe for disaster not success.

LOL at people obsession with Rolle, if they had not seen him on ESPN, and them talking about how smart and great he was then no one would give a poo and he would be no diffrent than any other player in this draft.

"We need a safety now. OMG i saw this safety on ESPN and we could have drafted him.

WTF THE FRONT OFFICE SUCKS!"

again, the Pike pick alone made little sense, now factor in what they were doing at S.......they could have gotten any S instead of Pike. Rolle just happened to go 3 picks after Pike.

Pretty sure we need a S more than a backup LB no matter how you spin it. Pretty sure if they were dumping Harris that Rolle makes more sense than another inexperienced QB to add to our collection.

Could have also had Taylor Mays, but again. More value with Pike.

? Mays was a 2nd rounder. I am talking about Carolina wasting a 6th round pick on another QB in Pike (to go w/ Clasuen and Hunter)....instead of snagging a S (Rolle)to realistically compete for some playing time in 2010 or be an actual backup since we are dumping our starting S.

The value for Carolina would be in Rolle w/ that pick based on what they are doing and need.
