So whose fault is the Harris trade?

Didn't Bob Sanders play the FS position for the Colts? I would think Sherrod would have to play the free safety position for us, because while everyone marvels at his interceptions he had some pretty terrible tackle attempts last year as well. I think Godfrey could thrive as a fast SS.

From what I saw, Sherrod Martin was pretty damn good against the run.

What I meant by that was since Sherrod was clearly the best FS on the team, it would only make since to move Godfrey to SS. And yes I agree that Godfrey would be a fast SS but he also needs to step up his tackling and bring the intimidation that Harris brought. But we are looking at a potentially great coverage group, even more so than last year. We could have the same shitty pass rush we've always had and still be better just because of the range that Martin and Godfrey can bring.

My real issue though is I question whether Godfrey can take on the decision making skills that a SS in our D requires us to do. Not to call him stupid but he has never seemed to be brightest guy on the team and we know he has a history of blown coverages. I'm thinking it would be Sherrod making these calls at FS. He has a great work ethic and studies film.

Harris didnt fit the Cover 2 scheme very well. Godfrey and Martin are players Fox like IMO because they cause turnovers and Fox has always preached that. The Panthers have always been successful under Fox when our INTs are high.

You should have stuck with coverage skills because you could make a case. as for turnovers- Godfrey had 1 INT and 4 FF in 12 games, Martin had 3 INTs and 1FF in 16 games, Harris had 3 INTs and 2 FF in 13 games. It was a wash.

All I said was he was not a good fit for our cover 2. Not that he did not cause turnovers, cause he did. Now if your trying to tell me that Harris is a ball hawk that's just silly.

It just sucks because I feel that Harris had a lot he could've taught these guys in that Harris had to compensate for his lack of skill in some areas (speed, hands) at that position and he more than made up for it in other areas (forced fumbles end the red-zone at pivotal moments). The other guys have what Harris didn't but how will they handle the situation when a team just wants to run it on us all day long? Harris definitely knew what to do in that situation.
