So whose fault is the Harris trade?

This kind of trade reminds me of what happened with Keyshawn Johnson. We had a guy who was contributing but not a superstar. We get a few guys in the draft who we want to use to replace him. In this case it could be Godfrey or Martin although neither have ever played strong safety that I know.

The main reason we are getting rid of him in my opinion is that he verbally doesnt not support all the front office decisions and other players respect his opinion and leadership. By getting rid of him we send a big message to the rest of the team to get in line with the philosophy or at least shut up or you will be gone as well.

Why is this a problem? Who on the team has played SS before? Who will be there to help the new guy learn the ropes? What happens if they don't play well or we get hit by injuries? At 2 million, Harris was not getting paid very much. But it does reduce the guys under long term contract by one more.

ya, i'm so glad we have the 1 interception per year machine back there to replace chris harris. if you're going to praise some aspect of godfrey's game, at least find something he's good at.

Godfrey's overall game sucks. He just "improved" the last 5 games and has mass potential. :D

Can't wait until the eventual s***storm when we trade Smitty

IMO, Ron Meeks sees Martin as a Bob Sanders type of player. He can cover a lot of ground while playing both the run and the pass pretty well. I'm not saying that Martin is as good as Sanders, because that obviously remains to be seen, but he is the same type of player. Let's just hope that Martin can stay on the field more than Sanders has.

I wish Chris Harris all the best, but let's face it, he is not very fast and he has never been all that great in pass coverage.

Bullshit. This is a business. We would NOT take less than market value to please a player who was publically speaking out against the team.

Your post is a prime example of person who just does not understand that the NFL is a business.

Given the 5th round picks that were given up for some of the recent trades, it is apparent that most teams are not over valuing veteran players anymore.

Your post is a prime example of someone who doesn't understand business.

Business is not automatically some faceless corporation run by bean counters and greedy stock holders.

Smith has gotten into two fights and has also had a few quotes of his own about the staff, yet he's still on the team...a team that preaches high character and family values. He's still on the team because he's proven that he can't be replaced. Harris, Hoover and Peppers didn't do that, thus they are no longer with us.

It remains to be seen if they can replaced. Another theory could be Smitty would be harder to shop despite his success because he had all those problems. It would be like shopping Marshall only harder since Smitty is 30. Seems to me that Peppers, Harris and Hoover were high character guys with less baggage. We might be keeping him because we can't get enough value to make it worth our while so we keep him instead.

Don't know if this is true but it makes some sense.

I can't say I disagree with your post.

But if any of it is true, then parting ways for a starting Strong Safety for a 3rd string Line Backer who will only be on the field for punts and kick offs without any sort of other compensatory considerations is stupid. Period.

I don't care if Meeks proves to be the Stephen Hawkings of football defenses, or if Harris slapped John Fox upside the head after the draft or whatever... they let an opportunity slip and hurt the team.
