Setting up to defend the pass

I agree. I think we all need to sleep on it, then think it through rationally tomorrow. I think most will come to this same conclusion. It took me a little while, but I really think we will find that we will have a better team this year...even though we are MUCH younger & much lower #s on the cap (& implications going into the uncapped year). MY only fear is our DEs, but I think if Hardy works out we may be okay there too.

Matt Ryan can gargle my balls. Breesus is the only passing threat in our division. But I agree with you on your point of defending the pass. And it makes sense, were positioning ourselves to beat our division, everything else will fall into place. Harris is outspoken and wouldn't take riding the bench lightly and would have probably become a distraction and maybe even a locker room cancer, tweeting his misfortunes from the sidelines. I loved me some Hitman, but this move was better for the team, and better for Harris as well.

I good pass rush makes your secondary good. The weakest part of the Panthers team is likely to be the defensive line. Godfrey and Marshall aren't known for there coverage ability either.

Brees will shred Godfrey, Marshall, Gamble and whoever w/ no pass rush.

Unfortunately this.

I'll bet my bottom dollar Brees is salivating out the mouth right now.

We will def need guys to step up on the Dline but this is Johnsons time to shine. Everyone has been saying he needs more snaps and he will get it this year.

We were fourth in the NFL against the pass and we were 22nd against the run. So we get rid of one of our best run defenders in the secondary because it is more important to get better against the pass than it is to get better against the run.

Yeah that makes a bunch of sense.

With the Saints raping secondaries you can never be too good against he pass. The only secondary to slow them down was the Jets.

The NFC south is a snake and we're going for the head. You need to be successful in the division first. We can't get into the playoffs with a 4 game swing already playing against us. Look at what the falcons did to us. We would have had winning seasons if we could have stopped Vick sooner.

you guys make it sound like he was solid in coverage. lol. he had his assets but that wasn't one of them. godfrey is a the least as good as harris in that regard. martin is better. QBs aren't going to be licking their chops because we don't have harris anymore.

while i do think that they are trying to get better at defending the pass i think this had more to do with meeks wanting a faster defense. that has always been the plan...guys that are fast and swarming to the ball. that is something that has been talked about by quite a few players. you have to be fast. diggs wasn't and neither is harris.

i do believe that there is more to his getting traded than that. probably a lot of factors but we should be getting an upgrade in the defense. williams is pretty good against the run...i'd say he's a bigger asset against the run.

does that help us at SS? nope, not really but overall it is a step up. godfrey might be considered a bit of an upgrade over harris, though.

not sure how many people remember seeing that article that had harris as having one of the ten lowest tackling efficiency numbers among safeties.

his personality on the field was infectious but his skill set was in decline. he was hard hitter and a leader but not nearly the top at his position. we can do better. hopefully someone on the team will be better.

Pass rush can come from places other than the defensive line. We saw more LB blitzes last year, I think we will see even more now that Peppers is gone. We just got done drafting a LB (Norwood) who is primarily known for his pass rushing ability... probably more than just coincidence.
