Harris saw this coming for a while...

I (and more than a few others) saw him with one more year in him at least, but it was on the wall.

The South is no longer a run division folks. We needed two coverage safeties, and the youth movement didn't help matters.

How can the South not be a run division. 3 of the 4 teams finished in the top 15 in rushing last year and we were 3rd while New Orleans was 6th. The South and AFC East were the only 2 divisions with 2 teams in the top 6 in rushing offense.

Who would feel safe on this team if you are a veteran at this point. I imagine even guys like Smitty, King. Kasay or Gamble have to wonder if they will be on the team come opening day.

I will be shocked if Kasay is. The others are safe me thinks.

Well for a start we do not run against ourselves so using us as an example is a bit of an oddity.

What is it that threatens you most about NO? Their ability to pass over any team, or the ability to run down peoples throats once they are already up?

What is it that threatens you the most about Atlanta? Their ability to get the ball to White & Gonzalez, or the over used Turner and Norwood?

You can make a case for Atlanta, but our other two teams really have to be treated as a pass first team. TB cause they suck, NO because they are SO good at what they do best.

We are in the division so it isn't an oddity but a fact. If you meant to talk just about NO or Atlanta then you wouldn't have included the division just those teams in our division.

What scares me about New Orleans is that you have to play the pass but can't sell out or they gash you with the run. We typically play them hard against the run and try to make them one dimensional. The biggest problem with New Orleans is their quick strike capacity.

As for Atlanta they are alot like us. You have to stop the run and make Ryan beat you with the pass. And Tampa has traditionally been a running team with a dink and dunk passing attack. They often pass against us because Fox's philosophy is geared toward stopping the run. Plus they have a bunch of injuries to their running backs over the last few years.

I couldn't say anything, but he eluded to this when I did that interview with him. Its been a long time in the works. He was being shopped around and knew it, too valuable just to release.

Harris was shopped during the draft last weekend, but no deals came close. On Monday, the Panthers called Harris' agent and told him Harris would be either released or traded within the next few days

"I was quite surprised today, but I thought I was probably a candidate in March when they cleaned house," he said, referring to the cuts of six players, including quarterback Jake Delhomme. "Once I got through that time frame, I thought I was fine. When it didn't happen then, I kind of brushed off the possibility."

Interesting how it played out...
