State of the Team Address

With the sudden trade of Harris today, we once again have almost everyone on here ready to melt down. However the move makes allot of sense. There has been constant debate on what to do with Martin after several great performances. Players are drafted for a reason. Yes Harris could knock receivers into last decade, but he also could give up a big play at any time. He is up there in years and we have seen that Martin can play. Its time for him to get the start. The move makes sense. And no, we didnt just draft for a 3rd string WLB. This organization is smarter then that and Im sure there is either a draft pick attached, or allot of upside to this guy. We also took 3 CBs in this draft. Martin was drafted as a CB and converted. It is likely we see that with one of these draftees. The team made allot of progress with this draft. I do not feel at all like any moves this offseason have set us back.

We now have several viable options for QB, a very talented youth movement on defense, a stellar line, and a ton of talent at WR. The pieces are there to make a run at the championship. I am excited for camp and to see what will unfold. Dont jump so quick at a big name trade. It may just be crucial for someone else to take center stage. We are set for many years to come.

a run at a Championship? If you are talking 2010 you are smoking some good stuff. There moves are being made to make us better in the long run....not 2010. Looking at this D right now, Foxy will be lucky to hover around .500 (game under or over) playing Foxball......

no, the pieces were there for a run at the championship. like i've said before, they always make a lot of great offseason moves, but just enough raideresque moves to keep us from being elite. and, chris harris is 27. friend, that's not getting up there in years. if anything they should've traded or dropped godfrey and started harris with martin.

Do the moves this offseason make sense for the lockout year, and the long run? Yes.

Do the moves this offseason make sense for a "run at a championship? No.

Vets are needed come playoff time, and we only have a couple of them on the roster now. Hell, the only players not on their rookie deals that really contribute are Smith, Gross, and Wharton.

Do I like some of the moves, yes, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.

martin has showed he can make plays at fs and godfrey may be better suited to play but he is not the big hitter that harris is. don't sleep on pugh who we just drafted this guy can flat out fly to the ball probably fell in the draft cause people couldn't decide if he was a safety or corner(only played his last year at safety)

I can see us still making a run for a wild card spot based on our weak schedule. I don't see our team really coming together until the second half of the season. That said, we still have a lot of young talent that can make plays IF they can live up to their potential. As sad as I am to see Harris go, he really didn't fit into Meeks scheme anyway so it doesn't surprise me one bit in this dynamic Panthers off-season. Someone please make one last Harris highlight video and let's salute and move on. :patriot:

this thread title is misleading btw.

Everyone who thinks we aren't going to make the playoffs because we traded a slow strong safety that has the propensity to miss tackles has a considerable screw loose. We are not cutting costs we are getting players that fit Meeks' defense. I know everyone on here has a lot of love for Chris Harris and so do I, there is nothing i love more than seeing him come across the middle and hammer a receiver but Sherrod Martin starting over him was inevitable. We got an emerging linebacker for him that will just increase the competition and make sure the best backer will play with Davis and Beason on the starting line.

This off-season we have got younger, have more potential, and have the players in place that will not only guarantee our success this year but for the years to come. We will run the ball, make one or two big plays in the passing game, and bend but not break on defense. We have a pretty easy schedule and i feel match-up well with everyone in our conference. There is no doubt in my mind we make the playoffs. I know I am guilty of over-exaggerating my love for this team, but its deserved, expect big things to come from us.

All of these cuts are great if you're a robot.

We're making the most efficient use of talent, saving money, and getting younger.

We're losing a lot of stability in terms of leadership though, also this can't be good for morale watching these guys get cut like this.

And we did great screwed on this trade. We were going to cut him but instead we put him on the trading block and took the best offer we got. Jamar Williams is a lot better than getting nothing, but it's not a fair trade at all.
