Welcome Jamar Williams

I don't remember too many Panther fans being very excited about Harris until they saw him play here. Why don't we all just wait until we see for ourselves what Jamar Williams can do before we overreact? As if that's possible around here.

Because we needed him Minter just retired in the middle of camp and we had nobody too take his place. Chris came in and became a leader.

We didn't need this guy.

That's great. Seems to me you are the type of person who knows his team and refuses to acknowledge the emerging players on other teams.

Regardless, this thread is about Jamar, not about the trade. Although, why DL or WR??????????? We have 9 (I think) receivers on our roster and 6 tackles (known ones). We only had 5 LBs...

No, I'm not refusing to acknowledge anything. I'm saying what we already had was just as good. Anderson is an up and coming guy. He's always had ability, but he looked flat out fantastic for the most part when starting for Davis last year, after his injury. Anderson is just as good, maybe better, and we already have him.

On top of that, no, we don't have just 5 LBs. As I mentioned before, we have Beason, Davis, Connor, Anderson, and Ivy. That was just off the top of my head of the obvious guys and the one that stood out - Ivy. Now, we also had at least two others I know of that made it to the active roster at the end of the season - Quinton Culberson and Jordan Senn. And if you ask me, Senn looked impressive as a ST'er everytime I saw him. Now throw in a guy with outstanding potential to be an impact player, possible starter in Norwood. That's 8 LBs, not ocunting the UDFA and future contracts guys we signed before the draft and after.

Counting the draftees and guys we just signed, we have 9 WRs. Talk has come up of us possibly releasing Dwayne Jarrett now. Who else do we have with experience? Smitty, Kenneth Moore and Charly Martin (and Wallace Wright, but not with us)? SMH.

Now which position is deeper and has more talent? LB was not an area of need, and unless a huge upgrade, we didn't need any more infusion of talent. WR on the other hand??? I have huge hopes for Lafell, Edwards, and Gettis, but I think it would've been smarter to bring in another talented veteran guy to help. LB was good.

And we already know about the lack of experience and questionable amount of talent on the interior DL. But, who knows, both WR and DT could end up being our strongest positions as is... But, on paper and from observations of our games from what we already have, it's obvious LB was not an area of need in comparison to others. That's all I'm saying.

Nothing against Williams, but we could've done better. We'll see how he does though...

we don't need to make sure that LB is solid?

You got him inked in the 53 man roster already????????

Rayzor he could get cut in camp. Our Lb's look real solid after the draft. This guy by himself was not worth what Chris brought to this team. I respect your opinion but if you don't see that then whatever.

he won't be cut. we'll go into the season with 6 really solid LBs.

honestly i don't see what the problem is. that is the backbone of this defense..why wouldn't you want to make it as strong as possible?

i seriously don't think that there is going to be all that much of a drop off losing harris. if he was still playing at the level he was his first year....sure there would. but he has been on the decline for the past couple seasons. his leadership will be missed but if we can find a faster SS that is better in coverage, i'd gladly do without that "leadership".

we have an LB that comes in with no less cred than harris did coming here.

one thing that you have to keep in mind is that there might be some concerns with thomas davis being healthy and also he hasn't signed his tender. i don't know if there is something going on there as well but for whatever reason LB is definitely a concern. you should be glad that we are being proactive in dealing with whatever issues are there (if any).

also...he is going to make our special teams better. that in it self is a selling point to me.

btw...welcome to the panthers jamar.

glad to have you aboard.

generally people tend to do better once they escape chicago. the same cant really be said for people who go there.

indeed :D

to be honest though, I'm glad we at least got some compensation for Harris instead of just cutting him..

harris probably wanted this/asked for it. i get the feeling he wants to win now and the panthers want to win later.

i really don't care anymore though, at least jake delhomme isn't quarterback. that's plenty reason to be excited even if they trade steve smith/dwill and jstew next.

Beason, Connors, Davis, Anderson, Norwood, Irvy, and Senn. Plus a few more LB. Who's says he better then Irvy or Senn both have been on the team both are younger. He has been a back-up for 5 years how good is he really?
