Chris Harris Traded For LB Jamar Williams

I understand getting rid of Harris. He was a nice guy, really seemed to love Charlotte. He was just on his downward trend. It happens. Move onto better players.

However, why exactly did we pick up another LB? Aren't we uh... quite stacked at this point? I mean, honestly.

Jon Beason, Thomas Davis, Dan Connor, Eric Norwood, James Anderson, Quinton Culberson, Ivy Mortty, Jordan Senn, Sean Ware, and Brett Warrnen. Now add in Jamar Williams.

Now, I know that a couple of those above won't make the final roster. But comeon, couldn't we have gotten something a bit more worthwhile? A 6th round draft pick? Something else?

Please remove Culberson, Mortty, Seen, Ware, and Warrnen from any list you make in the future. These are barely camp fodder.

I believe we are putting in a contingency for Davis. Like Mr. Scot said in another thread....we are hedging aginst him returning at a high level from his knee injury, or we know we are miles apart in contract value for him.

Yeah I'm pretty f**king pissed. Whya re we kicking all out leaders away? Can't we rebuild slowly? This si too sudden!

Please understand....a player who is twitting and publically moaning, bitching, etc.. about the direction the FO is moving is NOT the type of leader you want with a young team. That is something you would would expect from the likes of TO.

Probably this. They didn't want to pay Witherspoon what he wanted so why is it so unlikely they do it it to TD. Thats why I was hoping someone would sign his tender so we could get a 1st and 3rd for him but I guess that was unrealistic. Anderson could play WLB for a year or 2, now we have Williams who could do the same.

I would be fine with this trade if they had thrown in Aromashodu or someone else. I think we got hosed more then the bears did originally. Do people really think Williams would have fetched more then a 5th in this years draft?

Holmes brought only a 5th. Boldin only a 3rd. Harris would have been lucky to bring a 4th or 5th. Williams would have been lucky to bring a 6th or 7th. The Value is the issue everyone has with this trade and thats because we got royally boned.

Given his liability in coverage, there is no way a team would have given up a 5th for Harris.

later Chris..

we are obviously planning on getting younger and tightening up the pass coverage...I am pleased with the effort

the goal was to rid ourselves of Harris to make room for the young'uns and dump some salary as well.

we got something in return and we probably got pretty close to market value for Harris in the process all things considered.

hint for some of you newer-to-the-board, brick-brain posers:

every trade is not meant to replace the player directly and when you trade players the "love from the former fan base" value rarely (if ever) accounts for much in the negotiations

all i know is that our 2 young safeties need to get in the weight room. does anyone els think that martin/godfrey is a little small to play SS

Godfrey is listed as 205 lbs, Martin 198 lbs, Harris is 205 lbs. Though I do think Godfrey looks like he should bulk up some.

agreed...that made me laugh a little.

true. that might have been a momentary lapse of reason but it was one of those mistakes that sticks with you for a while and has some pretty big implications in any industry. you don't have to agree with executive decisions but once you start running your mouth about it you become less desirable to have around. he would have gotten fired in most jobs.

true. also considering that williams is on the upside of his career and harris really isn't then the value is going to be somewhat equal. around here harris is going to be considered a lot more valuable just because we like him so much but in reality there probably isn't a whole lot of separation between the two.

as has been said in another thread...in a cover2 there is little difference between the two safeties. both have the same responsibility which is to protect their side of the field and stop the run. you have to be fast and good in coverage. we may not like godfrey for the job but he's going to be faster and better in coverage than harris.

That was Chris Harris's first tweet in weeks, and when he does tweet he does none of the above.

He was a great leader on the defense, can you honestly say he didn't play hard? The dude out there was the only person trying sometimes. I still remember that tackle he made solo on brandom jacobs, he hit him straight up and saved a TD on the goal line, that was the epitome of Chris Harris to me. He will be missed, dumbass trade imo. smh
