Chris Harris Traded For LB Jamar Williams

Chis Harris is an awesome player.

The Bears got two of the Panthers best defenders.

They are happy now so I wouldn't wast bandwidth hating.

I remember you talking about how great Harris just last month.

O how tides turn.

lol in the thread you made on the front page you said "Chris Harris is an average player". You are right though, he is severely average.

Are you serious?

Both those guys are much better athletes than Chris Harris.

Chris Harris is a very average specimen that makes up for it with his football smarts. He was nothing but a stop gap from the moment we traded for him. Because he is a hitter, and a vocal leader, he became an instant fan favorite. Even mine! But to not see that both Godfrey and Martin can be better than Harris, is ignorant. Chris's play has gone down, and he's getting older. The younger guys have a lot more talent. Martin was making plays all over the field for us when he was on the field.

You still don't think so? Ask Gantt. He made mention to it weeks ago that our two best safeties was Godfrey and Martin. It was only a matter of time before they got to see the field.

Add to the fact that Harris was displeased with the Panthers, that actually sped up the process of him leaving.

I understand ya love Harris. He was a great leader, and a smart football player. But he was average at best. While our younger safeties can be more than that.

If you want an elite athlete as a safety, take D Manning from the Bears. He sucks at D but can return punts really well.

Great athleticism does not equal a great safety as Manning is the most athletic player on the Bears roster.

its true, panthers traded a backup for a backup.

i'm a big harris fan and LOVED his hitting, FFs(unreal for one yr), football IQ, and character. during TC it would be clear, he'd be a backup/STer. so in turn the panthers did him a favor and traded the guy. harris would be upset about sitting behind some youngster.

i hated to admit it but after watching games(after 07) things became clear harris is slower than t. davis, any CB, beason, pep, godfrey, or martin. more than a few times harris would be closer and have the better angle, then watch godfrey/others listed above make it before.

today nfl game, saftey MUST have coverage skills and be able to cover ground FAST. unless he gets faster, hes a small LB playing S.

We are not talking about being athletic. We are talking about having the speed and agility to be a good pass defender. Harris was below average against the pass, and prob above average against the run. In a Cover 2, you have to be a better pass defender.

Enjoy our cast offs.....

As much as this move is very shocking and disappointing. I understand it. Here's why; Meeks runs a 4-3 Cover 2 defense that requires great pass defending safeties, that combined with our sudden youth movement (make no mistake Harris is still young, 27) we are giving the young and talented Sherrod Martin a chance. Martin as you may recall, intercepted Kurt Warner twice when we played against the Cardinals. This definitely helps his case in replacing Harris. Although you cannot replace Harris's leadership, his play was on the decline as his injuries prevented him from reaching his full potential. It's just the nature of a hard hitting safety to decline after having their body take so much punishment, same with running backs, that's why most NFL offenses have adapted to the 2 running back system.

Our defense is going to get run on game after game after game.

Has anyone ever watched Charles Godfrey try to make an open field tackle. I honestly believe the guy trips over overgrown blades of grass.

Our front four is a joke, our linebacker core is as solid as it gets, but won't be able to get off of thier blocks due to our defensive front being steamrolled. Then, heaven forbid, our corners and safeties have to make a tackle. Gamble just became our biggest asset against the run in our secondary...good lord.

I guess if this move signifies one thing it is that a lockout is imminent.

Good work Furney.

You must have one heck of a crystal ball. Dude, like Madhatter said, lets see how our young guys do before you label them.

Everyone keeps talking about how we will miss his "leadership". Harris' actions after the initial cuts gave evidence that he was not the mentor for our young players. He was angy and bitter....and publically lashed out. That is not leadership....that is something I would expect from TO.

He would have been a cancer in the locker room. He had to go.

...However, it would have only been missed if he were a team player. The way he has handled these offseason moves indicated that he was NOT the leader that everyone thought. He was spouting off on Twitter near the likes of TO. He did not agree with what the FO was doing and would have been a huge cancer on this squad. For that reason alone...he had to go.

Exactly. You've hit the nail on the head 'Hatter'!

We have shipped numerous players north to your team. And, every one of them sucked as a Bear. Admit it.....The Panthers ARE your daddy.

Harris is an avg safety....which sadly is better than anything the Bears have on their roster.
