Have To Give Gantt Props

So hidden away in the otherwise god awful Sporting News Draft guide (which insanely lists Jonathan's Crompton and Dwyer as 1st round talents and second best at their positions), is Gantt's write up for Carolina's team needs and who he thinks would be a good fit there...

1. WR - Shipley or LaFell

2. DE - Greg Hardy

3. DT - Linval Joseph

4. QB - Grothe or Levi Brown

5. Returner - Armanti Edwards

6. CB - Arenas

So not only did he spot the positions of need correctly (only DT wasn't significantly addressed), he spotted 3 of the exact players we ended up taking.

Sorry no link as it's a print magazine article.

that's impressive.. he was on 99.9 The Fan in Raleigh raving over Edwards.. (Naturally, since he's an App fan..)

he said Edwards has the toughness of Smitty and Sam Mills, and that the kid is all business.. if so, I'm liking the pick the more I hear about him... sounds like he has all the characteristics to truly be dangerous in a couple years..

Everyone close to the organization can't say enough positive things about this pick, I've noticed.

More removed from the organization......not so much......

I think that the more fans learn about Armanti and the more they see of him, the more they are going to love this pick.

Do not be suprised if the man does make an instant impact. I wouldn't be suprised to see him on the field day #1.

Edwards is a football player. Yes, it will take a year or 2 to get comfortable being a complete receiver (as it takes most receivers in the pros)...but he has the potential to be a steve smith type of playmaker. Is that not worth a 2nd? Id agrue its worth more than that if he develops the way most think he will.

Gannt mentioned in the interview that not 5 minutes after we picked Edwards he got a text reading something like, "damnit! He was our next pick!".. also, noting that our "reach" wasn't that much of a reach...

and I have a feeling that people who aren't familiar with Edwards don't understand the talent this guy has...

for those who are familiar with him and have watched him play.. these are the consistent things I hear:

and I sure as hell hope so.. we could use a true threat to take pressure off Smitty..

People complained about us taking Smith in the 3rd too... If Edwards reaches anywhere near that calibre, the FO will be geniuses for that trade... If not, they'll never live it down... I personally have no problem with the trade... They know more than I do about the kid, so I'll trust their judgement... If he busts out of the NFL, THEN I'll have an issue with the trade...

Just for fun...do you see a football player like him being a bust? Not having impact?

Btw....sure is good to see you posting more frequently!
