20/20 Hindsight: Brown and Goodson worth 2010 2nd round Pick, NOT 1st?

With hindsight, I think this is the question simply because I think the Panthers with their first rounder this year would've took Claussen anyway so in effect our 2010 Draft looks like this

1st: Claussen (paying 2nd round money)

2nd: Brown and Goodson, but with 1yr NFL experience

3rd: LaFell

3rd(in stupid trade): Edwards

4th: Norwood

6th: Hardy, Gettis, Pugh, Pike

7th: Stanford, McClain

I think its reasonable to conclude that they would've taken Claussen in the First(though perhaps in a trade down, getting another pick?), So if that is true then the above is in effect how the Panthers 2010 Draft ended up. Granted we need "time" to fully say 'was the Brown/Goodson trade worth it" but given this date in time do you think it was worth it???

I think Furney got Liquored up :sifone: after their First Round would be pick, who they tried to trade up into first round and early 2nd round to get also, fell all the way too them and by the end of the night they were Drunk enough to pull the Trigger on the Edwards Trade.

which we got along with the 2nd rounder we took Brown with for our First Rounder this year.

It was San Frans 2nd and 4th last season for our First This season.

So why are you putting Brown in the 2nd? You should put them both in the 4th.. do you see your logic is flawed? Goodson should go in the 4th. Brown should go in the 2nd.

he wasn't drafted in the 2nd round. therefore he isn't a 2nd round pick. sorry

The Point was that for our First Round Pick, which the Panthers likely would've taken Claussen with anyway, they got Everette Brown AND Mike Goodson.......AND None of these guys are getting paid First Round money!!!!!!

then without that first, Claussen slid all the way to them in the 2nd this year. Thus essentially we got the above list of players for this years draft.

Though you could convince me the Panthers wouldn't have taken Claussen in the 1st this year and would've taken a Defensive stud or WR stud and hoped to get The Golden Calf of Bristol or McCoy in the 2nd?

this is of course an in exact science, but I think Furney got so thrilled(drunk?) it made them trade next years 2nd away for Edwards.

Ok, if you want to be technical about it.

Point was for the pick we would've probably taken Claussen with most likely, we got Brown AND Goodson.

On the radio all day they talk as if we just got Brown out of the deal and he would've been no better than a 3rd rounder this year.

Everette Brown is going to be a stud. He was a first round talent last year and this year. Jimmy Clausen was a first round talent this year. IMO we didn't give up anything because we would have taken Clausen with the 17th pick that we had given to SF. Not to mention we would have had to pay him a 1st round contract. It turned out to be a great move by Hurney.

I don't think Clausen will get anywhere close to 17th pick money, though I bet he does get more than your average #48 pick of yrs past.

Anyway, In Hurney's view I think he's looking at the value he got out of this deal and money saved and thinking he came out on better end.
