Steve Smith interviewed about the Draft on WFNZ today.

Lol, I thought the same thing. It's almost the exact same situation...but this is real life. A decent, likable QB that a lot of people want to see succeed has a young hot shot QB (that has been groomed his entire life to be the next big thing at QB, who also happens to come from a wealthy family) come in as his backup, while everyone knows it's just a matter of time until that hotshot gets the bump.

Sounds like Playmakers before they 86'd it.

No, I was going to say "maybe he's a scared little bitch and was afraid to talk to Smith on the phone" but I thought I would say something a little nicer. And yes, that's what I really wanted to say, even though I like Clausen. It struck me as very weak that he would text instead of calling. It's not a big deal, just odd.

Why he be scared to call a team mate? Some of these ignorant insinuations are hilarious. Thats worse than the overusedpunching joke. BTW, Smith said he texted him and they already talked.

Ok, then why didn't we draft any QBs from 2006 to 2009?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolina_Panthers_draft_history

You mean to tell me they didn't have ANY first round QBs to choose from?

Riiiight....

In fact, since Delhomme took us to the Superbowl, until this year, we have only drafted ONE.... count it... ONE QB.

Obviously this is because Delhomme is that much better than Moore?

Riiiiight...

P.S. Armanti Edwards will be a WR/QB. I fully expect him to line up in a WC, and play the part of a WR (blocking).... but then I can see him to be thrown a reverse and chunk it downfield.

Old Myth - Fox and Hurney would NEVER draft a franchise QB with an early pick.

New Myth - Fox and Hurney would NEVER draft a franchise QB had Jake Delhomme been here.

I know what Smith said; I listened to the entire recording (are you even reading my posts?). I don't know why he would be sacred to call Smith. What I gathered from the call was that Clausen texted him and they talked on the phone later. I just thought it was kind of gay. Maybe I'm just not into texting?

WTH does that have to do with 2010? Every year is different, every draft is different.

And if Armanti lines up in the WC, that does not mean he was drafted to be a QB...it just means he's a threat to run or throw a pass 2-3 times a game. There is a huge difference. Do you also think DeAngelo Williams was drafted to play QB because he ran the WC a few times?

/facepalm

Do I really have to review the last couple pages of this thread? I guess so...

We're talking about Steve Smith's comments about the draft. He mentioned that Moore earned the starting role, but they drafted a couple QBs. My point is that they didn't draft any QBs when Delhomme was the starter, so Moore being treated differently shows Fox is coaching by personal taste, not by the numbers.

And WTF are you talking about Williams being drafted as a QB? Wildcats have the RB in the QB slot, and the QB in the WR slot. If the Edwards lines up as a WR in the WC and throws a block or throws the ball, he's acting like a QB either way.

The fact is, Delhomme was a pretty good QB once, whether some people want to admit that or not. Not even the most rabid haters knew how bad he would be in 09, regardless of what they claim now. That's why they didn't draft a QB back then, along with the fact that this team had more urgent needs. I mean, do you really regret that they took DeAngelo Williams with the 25th (I think) pick instead of a QB? What about John Beason or Jonathan Stewart? Which QB was worth drafting in those spots?

And you were the one claiming that Edwards was drafted as a QB, which he is not.

Guess you missed that Arizona playoff game

Also...Joe Flacco with J-Stew's pick. I think people complain about that the most.

I still want to know exactly where this "Moore isn't a Fox guy" came from. And I'm talking about the original source, not a second hand opinion from somebody who, supposedly, knows somebody else who, supposedly, has "inside information". I sure as hell have never heard John Fox utter any such proclamation.

It's as clear as Fox's affection for Delhomme was

The NFL considers him a QB pick:

That's a QB by his name... not WR...

Now... hurney has said he's a wideout... but more likely will be special teams/kick returner. Considering that he's never played these positions.... it's likely he'll be used in whatever role that is... one of which could be QB.

As noted, he played WR in HS.

So you knew for a fact that because of that one bad game that he would never have another good game? Right...I don't believe that for a second. It is easy for people to say after the fact though.

He had SEVERAL bad games. Oakland, Tampa Bay, Detroit...he looked like complete crap in the 2nd half of the season. The playoff game was icing on the cake. Only the most devoted Delhomme fans couldn't see he was done at that point.

The point was that the Panthers didn't draft 3 QB's like you claimed. Edwards will most definitely not be competing with Moore, Clausen, Cantwell and Pike for a starting QB job. He definitely will be taking reps at WR this summer.

I'm not getting into the Jake Delhomme debate again, but since the other guy couldn't answer this question, why don't you explain to me which of these great 1st round QB's we missed out on that could have been taken in the spots where guys like Beason, Williams, Otah, and Stewart were taken in recent years.
