So To All The Smart Posters Who Knew We Would Never Draft a QB Early...

Yeah no poo; it's the smart thing to do unless you have Brees or something.

Not sure if you were here at the time, but there were several posters here who claimed that Fox/Hurney would NEVER draft a QB early, suggesting that it was purely because they hate the position, not that it had anything to do with the player not being the best on their board. They moaned this battlecry when we passed up "studs" like Brady Quinn in the first round.

It's pretty asinine to think that Fox and Hurney would pass on a QB early, seeing as the higher the round the better your chances of being successful. Sure, you get your Tom Bradys and all but there is a reason the draft still works the way it does (because higher round players are generally better).

And it's also equally retarded to think they hate the position. As a coach or GM I assume you do what you feel is best for the team (yes, that means I think Fox thought Delhomme was the answer all season) and not what suits just you.

For years, we watched as John Fox stated over and over again that he did not like to draft QBs early or develop them, so you can't blame folks for thinking that it would never happen during his regime.

I was one who was nonplussed by the Claussen pick, but I've moved into the acceptance phase of my rage pattern ;)

Their draft history was the evidence most used. The easy arguement is they never felt the need for a qb due to their comfort and commitment to delhomme. I also don't think a mid 2nd round qb is nearly the risk of a mid to high first round qb. Bpa and draft needs also come into play when referring to past drafts.

But Delhomme has been around for years as well, so why did Fox need a new QB? Also, since when was there such a good QB available at the spot where the Panthers picked?

I'm not saying I saw it coming, just that it was an obvious choice based on the circumstances.
