I hope that he doesn't have the chance to be a bust. I would love for Moore to take this job and own it like a true Pro Bowler.

I think that would be the best case senario for this team. For Clausen to get the job would probably have to mean that Moore blew it, or else got hurt.

or Clausen is just better but we will see

Part of the genius about picking 3 QBs this draft is that even if Clausen is a bust Pike might be good and Edwards could be our version of a smart high character Michael Vick. Best of all we didn't pay an arm and leg for them. Really we couldn't have done much better at this point.

I'm with P55 on this one... I see Edwards doing a lot more from the Shotgun/Wildcat than the majority are predicting... And I also think Pike is a lot closer to being ready than people think as well. He's considered a project but I think the guy has game.

Like I said in my thread after the draft, I wasn't happy with the Clausen pick at first, but the way the rest of the draft played out, I'm ecstatic. We're the talk of the NFL world right now. About 90% of what I have heard about the pick has been positive and most of those say it's an even better pick b/c it's good for both parties - he knows the system, has a top OL, top running game, one of the best receivers in the game, etc.

And with the way Matt played last year, man... We're gonna surprise a lot of people with how good we are this year - even a lot in our own fan base.

In that thread, I talked about how awesome the preseason will be, b/c it pretty much is the first TC/PS that we'll actually have an open competition for the job since Jake's 2nd year here, so whoever wins it deserves it. We gave ourselves 3 very talented options.

And for our own fan base, think of how many jokes were made leading up to each season under Jake. I've said before, in his prime, he was somewhere between a Top 10-15 QB in the NFL. He was good. But the guy was polarizing for whatever reason, you either loved him or hated him from day one. So, each year, no matter how many improvements we made, there was still that sentiment of, "but yeah, we still have Jake..."

I think the fanbase's divided feelings about Jake hindered some of the enthusiasm and excitement for what we could do as a team... This is the first year that I think no matter who wins the job, the fan base can fully get behind the guy that wins it and I feel like that's going to feed into the season and the team's success this year. /homer

Pat White, Vick, etc. simply aren't that effective in the wildcat. The wildcat is designed for a RB. The great running QBs are effective b/c the run is viewed as option 2 and not 1.

It makes me happy that we weren't grouped with teams like the Bills and the Raiders who "made the right move and passed on him." I mean really? Questioning a draft pick because the Raiders passed on him?? What a joke...

yeah, their QB experiment turned out great!

The wildcat isn't effective if you just run out of it. And it doesn't work if you always run and only pass one in a blue moon. The wildcat can be very effective if you have great tight ends who can slip out in coverage or block and you have a guy who can accurately pass down the field.

Most teams say that you can stop the wildcat by run blitzing in all the gaps. That is absolutely correct but if when you sellout on the blitz you have a guy who can beat you with the pass you now have a secondary with multiple holes which can be totally exploited. Pat White only attempted 5 passes and completed none. He ran 21 times for 81 yards. Their wildcat wasn't effective because he couldn't throw the ball down the field and make folks respect the pass as an option.

I still think we have to shore up the defensive line in order to get better pressure. And I would like to see up bring in a few veterans there. But we did work to fix the QB and wide receiver, two positions that we were hurting for certain. I don't know if things will backfire on us picking up so many QBs like we did. We don't have space to bring in a veteran so we have to go with what we have. As long as Moore isn't hurt we will be fine. But I hate starting rookie quarterbacks. While our situation may be ideal, they still make mistakes. Maybe after preseason we might see something in Clausen to change my feelings right now.
