What to look for when Training Camp begins...

Recommended Posts

This is the projection I have...

Keep in mind too that we could very well be carrying 3 QBs, which will also cut down on a spot for another FB... and with Sutton doing alright in fill-in duty at FB, he'll stick...

I tend to think that, this year, the extra spots on offensive skill positions will go to QB and WR... RB and FB will be the same as last year, 4 - 1 respectively...

Isn't there a game day roster exemption for an emergency QB. Could we carry 2 QB's on the 53 man roster. Then have Pike as the emergency #3. He would dress and could play if both Moore and Clausen were injured...but not count agaisnt the active dressed roster.

Am I correct?

Good thread and nice write up SLJ, would give you some rep but it tells me I have to spread it around some.

This seems to be the 1st thread I have read where there wasn't a bunch of crying over who we got. Over the last few drafts we have done quite well so, why wouldn't we have a little confidence in what the F.O. has done.

But back to the subject at hand.

I am not sold the Clausen would start. We had D'Will from the 1st round and it took to seasons for him to become our #1 back. I think Moore will make it tough on them.

Letting Clausen sit out a year is not a bad thing. It gives him time to learn our system (though similiar to what ND used). If Moore starts to make poor mistakes then we pull the plug. I would hate to put Clausen in when he really isn't ready and turn him into David Carr Version 2.

Go Panthers

Starting RG

Keydrick Vincent is gone, and I expect Bernadeau will enter camp as the starter. Don't rule out Duke Robinson or Rob Petitti here either.

Why does everyone think Bernadeau will play RG? He played well at LG last year, but I don't remember him ever stepping in at RG. The two positions are not completely inter-changable. The Panthers have looked at entirely different type of players there the past couple of seasons. At LG they seem to prefer a smaller more athletic guy (Wharton, Bernadeau) while they like a bigger road grader at RG (Vincent, Bridges).

Your second options seem to be the frontrunners to me.

they have him at the rg on the depth chart right now tommie boy

I must have missed that.

Still seems strange to me since we have had so much success the last couple years with an athletic left side of the line and a gigantic right side.

ya bernadeau is about 17lbs less than vincent was. i think they think of him as starter material over robinson tho and wharton has the lg spot locked up.

I think that goes for gameday rosters... You can only dress 45 of your 53, and if you have an emergency QB, you can dress 46... I'm not 100% sure, but I can look it up in a bit...

EDIT: After looking into it, and as per my understanding, the above statement is correct...

While you can dress a third QB with your gameday 45 (making him the 46th), you still count that player on your 53 man roster... IE, you can't keep 3 QBs, label one "emergency," and then carry 54 players...

Ok I just looked at this so called depth chart. It has Duke as the back-up for LG. He is not a pulling guard! Not athletic enough. I think it was just some guy at the observer's guess not the actual depth chart.

I guess we will see this weekend.

You can dress 46 players all the time. The emergency backup quarterback can be on the roster (53) but not part of your active 46. At this point we might make Edwards active as a WR/KR and use him as our emergency backup or designate someone else like Pike.

Wrong... You can dress 45, with one of the other 8 as an emergency QB...

On regular-season game days the team names its 45-man Active Roster which defines those players who may participate in the game. In addition, each team is allowed to name one of the remaining 8 players as its emergency backup QB--that player can only play QB and can only play in the event of injury to the team's #1 and #2 QBs.

If we designated Edwards, he couldn't play at all, unless you pull Moore and Clausen the rest of the game... and Edwards could only play QB...

If you keep Pike, he still counts against the 53, and would be the 46th if we designate an emergency QB...
