Anyone left who does not believe in Bryce ?

I feel the same as my initial assessment - mid- to low-level starter over time with occasional flashes of more, a la Teddy and Alex Smith. I now believe he has way more chance of maintaining that type of performance over time than I did after the first 2/3 of his career starts, but it is going to take another 1/2 to full season of next-level play to buy into him being good enough to really be worth counting in the 'franchise QB'  territory. If he does it though then I'll be wrong and everyone involved will be the better for it. Will revisit it around Weeks 6-8 next year but won't give it a second thought until that point.

That said, my bias is that I think you have to keep swinging until you get a true upper-tier guy if you want to be perennially competitive in this league. If your QB isn't clearly in the top 5 of the league, then he's not good enough to win without the stars aligning. Teams spending that kind of money on a Tua, Trevor, Kyler, Geno, etc are just trying to maintain a status quo and hoping that the stars align and lightning strikes for a season. That speaks as much to the business of the NFL though since teams need fans and fans need hope, so it is what it is.

What has me super excited is he's going into year 2 of the same system. You could really see him taking command of the offense at the end of the year moving players where he wanted them, changing routs ect. I'm ready for him to have a Breese/Manning type of control of the offense where no matter what the defense does they're probably gonna be wrong. #KeepPounding

Think about what it took from Byrce. To go from being sacked 62 times his rookie season.... to being able to regain his confidence,  to the point of slinging all over the place.

This kid has it.

If he had average the for a proto typical  NFL QB, everyone would be saying how special he is.

Yes wait until the next bad game or less than stellar performance, they’ll come out of the woodwork

Thats the annoying part about all this...he's gonna have to a whole season of stellar play just for people to get past his first season lol

This. He definitely showed a lot in the final stretch of the season. Enough to actually make me excited to see him next season. He looked like a legit MVP caliber QB in the final game. That's exciting. But we need to see a lot more than just a handful of games before I'm ready to say we definitely have our long-term answer at QB. I sure hope we do.

You have Linville saying stuff like this. Be happy with that and let’s see how next season goes. I agree 100%. Hope, but let’s see 9 stay consistent.

I guess what I mean is believe he can be our franchise QB. I feel like watching him since week 9 pretty much sold me on the idea that he absolutely can. Also for his confidence to transition to where it was in last quarter of the season was special. I really think Bryce is gonna be a star. Maybe I am being a homer but thats the feeling I get when I watch him now.

Ah yes just what we needed. Another Bryce Young thread where the same people list off the same grievances directed at the same perceived enemies.

How about we wait and see what Canales and Bryce Young both look like in September and October when the games actually matter for playoffs and go from there? Pretty reasonable right? Cool

Not being a smartass. Being honest, what would be your limit that you would bet on that?

I am not asking that to make a bet but so you can think about how business decisions around him will be handled. Think about if your job and mortgage depended on his success. It will give you clarity.

One thing Dan keeps saying is they want competition at every position and QB is no exception. Bryce has won his place on the team and to be named starter. But to stay the starter he needs to play at a high level or I hope we bring in other guys to challenge him unless they think Dalton is the guy. At which point I hope they draft a guy like in the third round who drops and at that point is BPA.  Or bring in a young guy drafted high earlier who didn't work out and let Canales work his magic.

You make some good points.  I think we should absolutely try to upgrade the QB2 position this offseason:

1) There are options mentioned in the comments above that would probably be an upgrade over Dalton, maybe significantly given his age. Regardless of how they feel about Andy as a mentor, the NFL season is 17 games, and many if not most QBs miss time due to injury. There is a very good chance your QB is going to have to play at some point. For that reason alone, we should and need to find the very best QB2 we can within the constraints of the rest of the cap. Bryce has been very physically resilient when he has been starter, but just like any player he's one play away from being out for the season.

2) Over the last 5 games, Bryce showed why he was drafted #1 overall. I think the plan should be to continue to build around Bryce with the idea he is going to be your franchise QB going forward. But beyond my first point and back to yours above, part of a championship culture is to have consistent competition at every single position. I don't think Canales would have a quick hook for Bryce going forward, but you need to continue to constantly develop and having a QB ready to lead should disaster happen. Whether that's injury or a guy just not being able to lead effectively like Bryce wasn't able to do for most of his rookie season (mostly not his fault), to the Bryce of the first 2 games this season where it was mostly his fault, poo can happen at any position and you need a backup plan.

The Cleveland Browns are case in point. I don't think it will ever be possible for another franchise to top their current streak of QB dysfunction.

Andy Dalton reminds me of how Derek Anderson was here. DA went from a great backup who could have probably competed for a starting job somewhere else into a statue who couldn't hit open guys in a couple short years.

Not saying Daltons drop-off has been that dramatic, but it's also hard to see him leading this team should Bryce go down.

He still needs to prove

A) he can be this good for a whole season

B) he can lead the team to a winning season

C) he can lead the team to the playoffs

If he can do any of those things, I'll be an official believer. If he can do multiple then that's a bonus.

I'm just leery from how everyone has pivoted hard on Bryce multiple times for the most part. To being hard for stroud when we traded for the pick initially, to all in for Bryce once it became obvious we were picking him, to saying he's ass in his first 18 games and borderline hating him, to now saying he's basically Jesus Christ for playing well in the last half of year 2

There's just no middle ground for most people. If you're not riding the wave of whatever the popular sentiment is about Bryce among the Fandom at any given time, most fans will berate you and hurl all sorts of bullshit at you just because you don't have the common opinion.

Definitely glad he's trending in the right direction going into the offseason. He could still regress like Stroud did this year. Need to see him have a season where he puts it all together for us to feel like we finally have our "guy." Hes close but not quite there yet. I hope he gets there.

I'm kinda surprised to see so many people with a level headed perspective in this thread. Last few days I've seen nothing but Bryce is the savior talk everywhere else on social media.
