Mason and Abdul may very well be gone by 8. Would you pull the trigger on Williams if both are gone?

  • Nic Scourton would be a better fit if we stay in a 34 defense. If we go back to a 43 he can play the opposite side of Brown

Starks is not getting enough attention here.

Edges, unless freaks, are not usually day 1 starters, and the safety position has the possibility to be even more thin than edge. Starks could be there at 8 and would probably start immediately.

Trust me, if Evero has anything to say about it we will spend 20% of our cap and picks on Safeties.

I wouldn’t be mad but honestly we should not feel the need to lock ourselves into edge with pick number 8, it should be the best player available regardless of position. We will have a top ranked player available at 8 which could be a CB, safety, DT, WR, etc

You bring up an interesting point--of course, we will know what I am about to post during free agency, but here is how I see it (shooting from the hip based on mocks):

Quality players are available:

Round 1:  All positions except QB

Round 2:  If you need an edge, better get it by end of round 2.  WR,  DBs that are likely to make a difference year 1 are gone by mid round 2.

Round 3:  DT/DEs run out in round 3

I really like the DT/DE depth in this draft--So much I might double dip (NT) and 3 tech (DE).

WR?  Free agency is not good, and you have to ask, "When are we getting a WR?"

You could add edge early, but if we plan to keep Clowney and Wonnum et al, can we get one later?  Doubt it,  which suggests that we may need to try to trade back and get the second or third best edge and WR early, DT/DE in rounds 2 and 3.  Just how I feel right now.

Have you watched his film? I find him very underwhelming. Very stiff. Not a great natural pass rusher. Not great production. Reminds me of a lesser version of Travon Walker.

He has played injured much of the season.  Very talented player with nearly perfect traits.  I wouldn’t but he is definitely worthy.  Worst case scenario is taking Starks.  A safety that high is dumb and he isn’t even a needle mover

that is not really how it works.

you have tiers.

when you draft at the top, there might be 1-3 generational talents, but everyone else is gonna be good.

one of the best at their position in college.

you are not gonna be in a position at 8 to even have to consider BPA.

there are not many guys like that in a draft and will be gone by 8.

at 8 we will have options for blue chip players at all positions.

6'5 265...Carter is 6'3 259

I like Mykel's build more.  I know Carter is a physical freak, but I'm concerned about his run defense.  I

Carter is actually build more sturdy similar weight but carter is shorter and more compact.

but if you want a run stopping edge they need to be 280+

we can draft a run stopping DT or LB in the 2nd round.

Walker over Williams

Jaylon Walker would fit the 3-4 more. yup. Especially now we know we're keeping Evero and likely keeping the same scheme or something similar since Canales is up there preaching about continuity.

We're very likely to miss out on Abdul Carter all the way down at 8, so Walker would be my next pass rusher of choice. Over guys like Mykel Williams and Nick Scourton which look more like 4-3 dudes.
