Matt Moore Highlights

Recommended Posts

I think some people need to go back and watch the last five games of last season again. In the game against the patriots you could tell he hadn't gotten his timing right with Smith and Moose. After that he absolutely dismantled defenses. I personally also thought Fox was trying to make him fail by calling passing plays where he normally wouldn't and probably shouldn't. Yet every time Matt stepped up and led us down the field. We looked like an entirely different team with him at the helm. Now everyone is saying he's not going to be our starter and that clausen Is a better QB. Moore is a proven winner in the NFL. Clausen is a proven loser in college. What else do you need to know.

This has yet to be tested over a full season....he did well in mop up duty. Now its time to see if he can be the show. If he isn't, then we have options now that we can develop long term. Also, he dismantled defenses because defenses were 8 in the box to stop the run most of the time....until he's actually been game planned for over the course of a whole season, and has shown that he can adjust on the fly, he's just like every other QB that has to prove themselves. He's not the long-term solution until he proves that he is.

Those who dislike Clausen will obviously see more faults than those who like him, same with Jarrett nuthuggers...they only see the good. I don't like Moore nor dislike him, but since I don't love him I don't see the franchise QB in him that the OP does.

We need unbiased eyes to look at all three of our QBs and then give their opinion. That'll be the best judge on the matter.

I agree....I think that Matt is a serviceable QB, but I don't see franchise on him. I think of Derek Anderson Lite when I see him....he may have one good year, but what'll happen once teams figure him out? That's what I want to know.

I would be much happier if I thought our coach was unbiased. I am happy that we got Clausen simply because we will have a quality back up. And I do think he has the ability to be great. However a lot of highly touted college QB's turn out to be garbage.

PIKE

Strengths:

Excellent height with a large frame --- Good athlete --- Arm strength is more than adequate and can make all the throws --- Accurate passer with good touch and timing --- Gets rid of the ball in a hurry --- Terrific field vision --- Able to move within the pocket, avoid sacks and buy time with his feet --- Can throw on the run --- Knows how to go through his progressions --- Smart --- Great feel for the game --- Has some upside.

Weaknesses:

Durability is a major concern --- Super thin and will have to continue to add weight and get stronger --- Must adjust to taking snaps from under center --- Mechanics will probably need to be refined --- Raw footwork and inconsistent technique --- Has some trouble throwing the deep ball --- Is still developing as a team leader --- Limited experience.

Clausen

Strengths:

Good height and bulk --- Arm strength is more than adequate and can make all of the necessary throws --- Great throwing mechanics with a quick delivery --- Super accurate passer with terrific touch, timing and anticipation --- Very smart with an excellent football IQ --- Knows how to operate under center, recognize blitzes, read coverages and go through progressions --- Takes care of the ball --- Able to buy time in the pocket with his feet --- Can throw on the run --- Tough and will play through pain and injuries --- Is confident with a fiery field presence and ice water in his veins --- Hard worker --- Media savvy and has proven that he can handle the spotlight --- Experienced --- Superb bloodlines.

Weaknesses:

Borderline cocky and entitled with a personality that rubs some people the wrong way --- Not a great athlete --- Can be overly cautious and too quick to check down, throw the ball away or take a sack --- Has to windup to really zip the ball --- Floats the deep ball at times --- Might not have a ton of upside --- Is still maturing --- Durability is a concern.

Can't find a pro scout report on Moore. Coming out there was some concern with his size and consistency as his mechanics weren't always the same. Good decision maker, has good vision and goes through his progressions nicely. Arm strength isn't amazing but it's good enough to make the throws. Was considered a good backup prospect for a WCO. <- this was him coming out of college now....so It's not 100 percent accurate on today's Matt Moore, but his Strengths are still the same....

Decision making, field vision (intangibles) he's athletic and moves his feet well in the pocket when needed. Goes through his progressions quickly and makes the correct throw more times then not.

Ah, but there's the rub -- do you trust Fox and Co. to put our best option at the quarterback position?
fox hasn't really been a fan of moore.

clausen seems to fit the image of the workaholic football player more than moore.

if moore slacks off at all he will lose the job to clausen.

i don't really consider pike that much of a factor, btw.

by the looks of it as a pure QB clausen>moore>pike.

this is coming from a moore fan. i want moore to succeed and i hated clausen as much as anyone did but i'm warming up to the idea that while moore can take the panthers to a higher level than jake did in recent years, clausen can take this team to the top. moore is a good QB at best. clausen is an elite QB at best. clausen has the greater upside.
