I'm telling you, he may not be the most likable coming outta the draft, but Clausen could really be something special. He was ahead of Bradford on some boards and fits perfectly in our system with the best arm on our squad. He may be a douche, but he's our douche now. :) Plus, the Panthers will get plenty more attention now.

edit: He reminds me of the "cocky jock" in a bad 80s movie which is pretty funny.

I'm happy with Clausen coming here. I was hoping that we wouldn't trade up to draft a QB, Moore has earned the starting job and we have a number 1 pick next year. But Clausen or McCoy being available are too good to pass up on, in my opinion. We drafted WRs too, another big priority. I am curious about the selection of Pike, the NFL scouts generally frown on QBs from 'spread' offenses, and he had trouble staying healthy. But he is a big kid, that's for sure.

This is what I took from the Panthers draft, correct me if wrong:

-Matt Moore was the starter, and they were most likely happy with that going into the season.

-But then Clausen fell through the 1st round and they thought he was way too good to pass up.

So now you have Moore and Clausen battling for the starting position.

Then they draft Pike, I see him as insurance as a back up to both Clausen and Moore if one or both were to get injured.

Exactly! :P

Yep. That about sums it up. Plus, Pike was too good of a value to pass up that late.

I've read most of the anti-Clausen posts and the vast majority of them are based on flimsy personal and subjective opinion and very little on any substantive knowledge of the game or the position. Mostly latent homo fanboys who haven't come out to their wives yet. Here is how they judge a QB:

1. What soundbites have I heard on ESPN?

2. What is the prevailing fanboy wisdom

3. Am I attracted to him as opposed to some other QB?

4. Do I like the school he played for?

5. Do other fanboys like the school he played for?

Never underestimate the ability of the modern ESPN fanboy to proudly embarass themselves with their uninformed, sheep following, jock sniff opinions.

I cannot wait to look back in a few years and compare the progress of Clausen to McCoy, The Golden Calf of Bristol and Bradford.

I'm sure, however that all the "I hate Clausen already" guys will have long sinced moved on and be dreaming of being asked to the prom by whoever ESPN's CFB prom king happens to be that year.

What rubes. They never learn to form their own opinions on objective evaluation so their opinion is always based on who they are attracted to or whatever they heard last on ESPN Gameday.

The Panthers drafted Clausen at #48 in the second round and most of you are acting like a bunch of whiny girls! I came here expecting happiness and excitement. But this board is exactly like the Jags one.

Yeah I'm a Jags fan an was hoping Clausen would get drafted by the Jags, but you guys were lucky enough to get him in the second and your complaining.

And LOL to all the dumb people that think Matt Moore is going to be the starter of the Panthers and the future. Either your so in denial that it's ridiculous, or you know nothing about football. Clausen is light years better than Moore and Pike.

They didn't draft Clausen that high to be a back-up, sorry Moore fans.

Fans of this franchise are more loyal to players than any fanbase I've seen. People on here were begging to re-sign Peppers to a max contract a few years ago. Some were still on the Delhomme bandwagon after he had essentially single-handedly put us in a hole we would not climb out of last year.

Now...you have Matt Moore emerge as a solid QB but still not one that I would consider "elite" and we are pissed that we drafted a QB to compete with him. At the very least it creates competition and creates a scenario that I think will ultimately come to fruition:

Moore starts this year and if he plays well he plays the whole year and we go to the playoffs with him.

Moore is the starter but struggles this year and is replaced by Clausen because the staff knows that Clausen is the future.

Moore loses the job in training camp because Clausen is just too good to keep off the field and we have found a franchise QB.

But...no matter what happens I will guarantee you that Moore will not put up the type of numbers that make the franchise sign him to a contract extension with Clausen on the bench. The only way that happens is if the coaches get to the end of the season and Clausen just hasn't made any progress at all, which I don't see happening.

Don't get me wrong I think Moore is a good QB. He had a 98 QB rating last year. But there is obvioulsy something going on where the coaches don't have full confidence in him. Maybe it was the fact that he got off to an atrocious start during the preseason. Maybe they just don't like his demeanor. I really don't know...but I think that it is kind of telling that you haven't seen any of the vets on this team come out and say "we already have our QB" after we drafted Clausen. I know there were some reports that Fox and Moore didn't exactly see eye to eye last year.
