Marty Hurney & Fox speak after the draft

as follows from http://twitter.com/cpanthers:

Fox: "I'm a firm believer that competition @ positions brings out the best in guys."

Hurney said Tony Pike, like Clausen, was the best player on the board when the Panthers picked him. "He was too good a value (to pass up)."

Hurney also said that Jordan Pugh will be a safety. He played cornerback at Texas A&M.

Hurney: "To draft well, you have to train yourself to go by the board, & if there's huge separation, take the best player."

Hurney emphasizing that they feel good about Moore & Cantwell, and that the picks of Clausen/Pike had nothing to do with them ...

(cont.) just that Pike and Clausen were too good to pass up at those draft spots relative to the grade the Panthers gave them.

Fox says DE Greg Hardy "has the skill set that we're looking for ... for a 6th-round value, those guys don't come down the pike very often."

Fox on whether Clausen could have chance to start in 2010: "Those guys answer those questions by competing, & we haven't had practice yet."

Fox said he talked with Matt Moore twice, & it "went very well," but he didn't want to divulge the details of the conversation.

kthnx.

What did you expect them to say? "We think Moore and Cantwell suck so we drafted two more QBs"? Wake up.

Do you really expect the undrafted free agent QB with a one year tender to get the nod over the top 10 QB that slid to the 2nd round? They didn't take Clausen to be a backup. You Moore nut huggers are in for a disapointment.
