Mykel Williams

YouTube suggested this video for me. Probably my favorite defensive prospect atm (I haven’t actually looked at Graham yet). I definitely like Williams better than Carter or Walker based on what little I’ve seen so far.  He has very good active hands, decent pass rush moves, good against the run, good at wrapping up and ensuring the tackle.

Same. He is one of my favorite prospects based on scouting reports, but not sure how reliable those are. Still need to see more from more prospects but he is an early fave right now after mason. Definitely preferred over carter.

I'm a bit iffy on Mykel.  He has a high ceiling but I thought he miss-timed a lot of snaps, didn't have the best awareness with reading plays, and isn't a closer.  I may be alone here, but I have him as a late R1 at best.  He'll test well, but he needs time to develop.

I feel the same way

Re-watching the Georgia defense against Texas (both times), GT, Bama, Miss St, and ND specifically to watch Starks, Walker, and Williams and as much as I wanted to Williams to pop... it's been all Jalon Walker and Malaki Starks who keep jumping out. Williams also seems to not be on the field on obvious run downs, so that's something to keep in mind watching the rest.

Just looking at the stat sheet, he did enough, but I was hoping to see more. I know he was battling injuries (one of them being an ankle iirc, will have to check), so I'm keeping that in mind.

As a Georgia alum who watches at least the big games, I can say wholeheartedly that Walker and Starks were more impactful during their time there. Walker would be the only one in the top 10 for me though.

Seems like a reach at 8. We should have a good shot to get someone similar w/ our second pick.

Probably is a reach considering his overall production, but I'm skeptical that you could get someone with as high of a ceiling in the second (unless it's him at the top of the second).

I feel this is Carolina's main target for #8.

I think he's one of their targets. It's tough to get a read on what the actual target will be on day 1. I get the feeling they are planning for several scenarios on day 1 if the visits and meetings mean anything. Most of the research they have done publicly have been on day 3 picks. They seemed to show a lot of interest in the SC safety early on.

I think you got a good grasp of their plan. I just feel they have done their work and have a good idea of who will be available. They mapped out picks 1-7 and Williams will be the their top target, unless walker is some how available....then he'd be a panther instead.

I am not at all impressed with him.  He is slow off the snap a lot, his few sacks--some he went unblocked.  PLEASE NO.

I agree. I was looking forward to Georgias' pro day cause mykel said he was fully healthy for the first time this year. Then .........meh at best showing....like cover up the name and school, that would be 6th rounder showcase. I've heard plenty of people tossing out "Hes a freak" etc etc. But guess what, I believe he is the apple of nearly all in Carolina Panthers leadership.

    • Our defense hasn't been elite. That doesn't mean that an individual player hasn't been. All an elite CB can do for your defense is greatly limit the other team's best receiver or greatly limit the passing success to his side of the field if he's a zone guy. There's still a lot of opportunity for the opposing team elsewhere.  I'm not saying he's a Luke or a Peppers. He's not. But I think he's a top 10 CB when healthy. I consider a top 10 CB to be elite. If you have a different definition, that's fine. I'm not gonna really argue where we draw that line or even if you think Horn is saying top 15 instead of top 10. Again, fine. Not really gonna argue that either. All I'm really trying to argue is that Horn is pretty damn good when he's on the field.
    • I'm not saying there's not a place for him here. I'm saying we massively overpaid for his skill set in today's NFL. Both statements can absolutely be true.
    • Has he truly been elite? I don’t recall our defense ever looking good over Horn’s career. I mean, is there even a noticeable scoring difference when he’s healthy? We have always, always overrated our guys and it’s pretty damn rare we actually have a player like Luke that it’s true. I loved Cam and he was a monster at times but we (most of us) revere him for his special plays more than results. Outside of the special 2015, he won 1 playoff game against a 3rd string QB. Don’t get me wrong, Cam was unbelievable at times but he’s a great example of us overrating players. Just for shits and giggles, I checked points against. We gave up 25 ppg from 2021 to 2024. In Jaycee’s 37 games, we’ve give up 26 ppg. I’d say Brown is far more valuable as our points against went from mediocre to record breakingly bad.
