Panthers and Horn talks will be interesting

He is undoubtedly a top corner in the league when he’s on the field. The issue has always been he’s not on the field a lot due to injury. Not sure how that impacts the negotiations but if he didn’t have injury concerns I think he’d undoubtedly reset the CB market.

I can’t understand why he would reset the CB market above what Surtain makes.

I don't want to lose him because he is very dedicated to the team and an important presence. At the same time this defense has so many needs and we can't afford to break the bank on one corner while the rest of the defense is...well....sh*t.

I think this site over values him.  Is he our best DB yes and it ain’t even close.  Is he top 10 corner? I dunno had some games where teams didn’t look too scared to throw his way. And don’t get me started on the injury thing.  I’ll pretty much bet if we sign him to a big contract he doesn’t play half the year. I’m skeptical of players who seem to have good years when it’s contract time

He made the Pro Bowl after not making top 10 in fan voting. So that means players and coaches voted him in. I'd say we night underrate him.

He’s getting paid. There should be zero doubt about that. He’s not leaving Carolina, he’s a top tier CB and you don’t let them leave.

He's a top tier QB who has a history of injuries. If he expects Surtain money, what do you think is going to happen?

im guessing about 20-22m/yr starting in 2026 and letting his 12m cap this year stay, like they did with Derrick Browns contract. Surtain and Ramsey have 24m average, and they're more reliable in playtime and availability.

Ideally, I think  starting it at 20m with incentives to potentially get to 22m if he can play a certain amount of games a year. Sometimes, the best ability is availability, and if he'd been healthy he'd be in the national radar more than just the Pro Bowl this year imho

Amazing all the fans on this board that continually want to overpay for players. Burns was overrated as hell and some on this board went into mourning when he got traded. Now he's doing fug all in new York and getting a huge paycheck.

You don't pay an elite guy, elite money, to be elite half the time.

    • Seriously, everyone had a right to criticize Bryce and they have a right to be skeptical now--his positive sample size is small.  But I agree that he showed us enough to change our approach to QB in 2025.  And Daniels points out how well he was reading the defense.  Hats off to the OL, and especially Cade Mays who stepped in at C and improved us.  Coker who is going to be fun to watch in 2025 because he was just getting started-great hands, nice size, and a gamer.  Add a WR or two and maybe a TE and this offense is going to be way groovy.
    • With his injury history, he's definitely someone you have to consider letting play out his tag if his agent is being unreasonable. You can't pay him top tier corner money and hope he can actually stay healthy for 4-5 years. The reality is, we can afford to retag him next year if he has another strong, healthy year and leverage that into a new contract in 2026. At least then, if he's proven two consecutive elite, healthy seasons, you don't really worry as much with paying top tier money. I have to think Horn also realizes if he is injured again next year, he loses his chance of ever seeing a big 2nd contract. If we push the guarantees, maybe he lives with sacrificing $20 million or so to ensure he is set up for life. Would you take 5 years, $85 million with $60 mil guaranteed now, or play on the tag next year, pray you don't get injured and hope for a 5 year, $110 million, $80 mil guaranteed next year vs possibility of getting injured and having to settle for a 1 year $10 million prove it 2nd contract. I'm sure that's where the discussions are going to be.
