that wasn't as bad as people were making it out to be. the dude specifically asked him what happened on a play. what should he have done, lied? refuse to answer? would being a liar or uncooperative and secretive be better qualities? it's not like he really spent time insulting the receiver, he just said what happened and moved on. that was blown way out of proportion. anyone who recommended passing on him 'cause of that doesn't deserve to be an nfl scout.

Take-aways from the film

  • Clausen solicits the opinions of his coaches to see if he's ready for the next challenge. Gets called stupid for listening to Charlie Weis.
  • Clausen reviews film and describes in clinical terms what happens, identifies it as a communication breakdown, and doesn't really assign responsibility one way or another. Gets called out for throwing his receiver under the bus.
  • Clausen takes notes and listens intently to everything Gruden has to say, including the criticism. Doesn't fit the narrative that he's Ego-Boy, so it isn't mentioned.
  • Clausen discusses his plans to approach the game as his full-time job and spend hours in the film room (something every successful NFL QB does). Again, it doesn't fit the narrative. So instead, people talk about how it's Matt Moore's job and Clausen's a jerk anyway.

Must be the Huddle...

Always intriguing to see the world through cyberjag colored glasses.

As to the first point, getting opinions from coaches is great. However, listing someone else's opinion as the main reason you are ready for the big leagues = uber lame. I would rather hear something to the effect of "I am confident in my own ability and ready to get out there and kick some ass".

If he said that, then he would come across as the arrogant jerk everyone here has already decided that he is. :)

Nah. Arrogant and confident are two different things.

Arrogant would be " Because I am confident in my abilities and ready to be a top 10 pick in the draft"

Well yeah, that's how I would view it. But do you really think the hate-brigade would take it that way? Look how they twisted the interview into a severe indictment on his character already.

1. The INT where the miscommunication happened was his sophmore year at North Carolina with a true freshmen WR in Mike Floyd. Of course there are going to be miscommunications between a sophmore qb giving hand signals to a freshmen WR espically on the road.

2. I saw nothing that warranted JC to get ripped like he is for his comments. Clearly it showed him giving the signal to Floyd, and Floyd didnt run the route. Plain and Simple.

3. Its impressive that JC knew what play that was and what play was called a year and a half after it happened. That shows his work ethic right there.

This guy has all the physical tools, but has a ton of growing up to do. A senior year would have done him well me thinks.

Yes returning to ND minus Tate, learning a new offense, and coming out in a possible lockout draft would have don wonders for him.
