Grade the Panthers Day 1....

So far I'm loving what we've accomplished... Love the QB value that late in the draft... Love the WR value... Love the overall player that Edwards is... Reminds me of a younger Smith in the open field... Maybe even a little more of a Vick type in the open... Love the player, unsure about the trade... It's obvious the Panthers didn't see him lasting into the 4th round... This kid can be a very dangerous weapon, even in a limited role for us next season...

For now I'm going with B+/A-

This is how I feel WE got a FRANCHISE QB everyone is bitchin about and didn't have to us a 1st on him. We got a big "gametime" receiver.

My friend is a Pats fans and the story is, Pats contacted Carolina and suggested they were going to take him. We bit cause we really wanted him. Remember we had a private workout with Edwards. I truly believe he will be converted to WR.

So our Day one we got a QB (which we needed) and 2 playmaking WR. What more can you ask for.

The doom and gloom you all portrait is sad. A small fact. 37 of 42 players drafted by Carolina are still in the NFL. 27 are still with the Panthers.

Good Job Fox and Hurney.

Right now its all pie and blue sky as were past years, and thats normal. I'd be great if these draft picks live up to their billing. Cant wait to see these guys in action and am getting pumped for TC...but then reality sets in, with grandpa (fox) still in charge of the remote the only thing on will be Lawrence Welch... Go Panthers!

A+. Not only did we get an almost sure starter out of it in LaFell, we got a potential franchise QB in Clausen. And Edwards will probably contribute on the field, but he has already provided tons of entertainment, in reading all the teenage angst on the huddle. :)

I hate the Clausen pick and it's not just the maturity and attitude.

What insiders do say, however, is that they don't like the extent that Clausen must labor to make longer throws. He doesn't look as natural as he does when making short and intermediate routes. He seems to have to twist his body in order to get any sort of velocity on the ball. And his deep passes tend to be launched awkwardly, like missiles, rather than delivered with the natural arc that one expects from a top-flight NFL quarterback.

There are concerns about Clausen's ability to attack the middle of the field. He just throws too many jump balls.

Missle launched deep balls. Those seem eerily similar to our last QBs moon shot deep balls that always ended up being jump balls because he couldn't lead the receiver.

I'm ok with Lafell for now but he seems to have issues that need worked out to become a consistent #2 and I don't like our track record of coaching up receivers (because outside Smith we don't really have one).

I hate the Edwards move because you don't give up a 2nd for an extreme project. So he's a returner and a "playmaker". There were several guys very similar to him that have actually played receiver before. Who knows when we see dividends, if we see dividends, from this pick outside the return game.

I'll go with D. We may have addressed our #2 WR issue but didn't touch anything else and created a headache at QB now with all the calls for Clausen to start (and there will be many even if he doesn't out play Moore).

I like this draft if nothing more than what it says about Fox. We used our first two picks, and traded for a third, all on offensive players. Does this mean that Fox is coming out of his shell a little and recognizing that a 7-3 lead is not safe? We seriously upgraded our offense and special teams with at least quality depth, and potential starters. This could spell a new era for Panthers football. I'm more excited now than I have been in a long time...at least until Fox goes back into his shell.

I give it a C+. I love the Clausen pick as late as we got him, am on the fence with Lafell (I would have rather had Mitchell or Decker), and would have rather had Everson Griffen if we were going to trade up in the 3rd round. If we can nab Griffen today though, I'd adjust higher.

Nice. I see it the same way. Did I think we would pick a QB? No, but I didn't think one was going to fall in our laps either. Great Value. We definately added 3 good players to the offensive side of the ball. I just can't understand the bitching on this board and I have to laugh at the ones who think their some draft expert or know what goes on in a draft (war room). I give the FO an (A) so far in this draft and now we'll see how the rest shakes out.

Grade: C-

Outrage level: 6.7/10

We grabbed some nifty players...but Hurney got ROBBED by the Patriots. ROBBED!!!

I like Armanti Edwards, but c'mon...we all know what happened. We got desperate and the Patriots FO used it to their advantage. I think all of these are great long-term picks though. I really like the Clausen pick.

Clausen is a huge steal. Sure he is a head case of sorts but living his life since middle school it would be hard not to be a bit cocky/confident

LaFell is a solid pick, good value where we got him and fills a huge need.

Getting a QB here is a bit silly, however I believe the versatility and leadership are huge commodities. Not to mention the winning attitude and background that comes with Edwards. He is a local talent and well known. I think the pick will turn out pretty well for us.

Solid B

I am not a fan of Claussen, but can't argue value at that pick

Lafell - Should be a solid contributor...And at least it wasn't a USC receiver,

Edwards - Earlier than would like, but few prospects fill this need. The value of a 3rd pick this year is worth next years 2nd.

Edwards could very well be the next Randel El and that worked out well for Pittsburg. A very similarly built team.
