Grade the Panthers Day 1....

Zod

Recommended Posts

Sadly, Friday was the Panthers day 1 in the draft.

Here are my thoughts...

Clausen - Physical prototype for an NFL QB. Will have the strongest arm in camp by a mile. Biggest concern is his mentality. Everything I have heard from the guy in interviews tells me he will have a rough time being a leader in the huddle with older vets. Has much growing up to do. Physically could start right away, but maturity will hold this guy back..

Brandon LaFell - aka mini-moose. Projected by many as a second rounder, a good bargain in the 3rd. Would be very happy to see him start this season and showing Jarrett what he was supposed to do years ago. I do like this pick.

Armanti Edwards - When I learned we traded next year's second rounder to move up and pick this guy in the third round, I thought it was a joke. Then when I learned it was not, I stabbed myself in the scrotum with a dull spoon to help distract me from what a god awful move that was. It didn't help.

Zod's day 1 grade : D

Zod's day 1 outrage level : 8

I give a C+. There is NO reason they needed Edwards after drafting Clasuen. The fact that they traded for him makes it even worse. 2 receivers and another qb for competition would have been a lot better.

I am still dumbfounded on why they thought Edwards was going to go so soon...

I would have liked the Edwards pick in the 6th, possibly the late 5th. But in the 3rd PLUS giving away a second rounder (Everette Brown, Sherrod Martin, Ryan Kalil, Richard Marshall) for next year?

Is that a joke? The guy would have been there in the fourth.

He's possibly our returner, slot receiver and wildcat option QB.

Remember, Steve Smith was only suppose to be a kick returner too...

Yes I understand he has more roles than qb, but qb is his postiion. Why can't the panthers jsut draft another WR that specializes in...WR? The panther's can't handle a player like Bush, the play style of Fox just doesn't require anyone like this.

If Clausen went in the second half of the second round, its suffice to say Edwards would have been there in the 4th. I am with Zod on this, I like Edwards I think he has skills, but not really for this team especially for a 2nd rounder, but who knows maybe Fox has seem the light.

Do you thunk before you type?

So because he's a project we should avoid one of the most dynamic playmakers in the draft?

We can't handle Bush? What do you call Smith and DeAngelo?

This arguement is absurd.
