Thoughts on Day Two

I am not a person who is going to sit here and say "I told you so" but I will say that I warned most people on here that a QB is not out of realm of possibility with our 1st pick and that there is value in other rounds at WR. That being said, lets look at the picks:

2nd round, Jimmy Clausen, QB, ND- For the record, I never predicted Clausen to fall this far in the draft and suspected that he would atleast go in the 2nd half of the 1st round. This, to me, is a steal in the 2nd round and I don't think many realize that. Clausen is a top 10 pick that slide to the 2nd round and Fox and Hurney had to make the move because you don't just let a guy like this slip past you. Also, I don't think this is going to hender the delevopment of Matt Moore, however, I don't think Moore will be our long term answer at QB thus the reason why we drafted Clausen. Might I also add that Clausen, out of all the QBs this year, is the most Pro-Ready QB coming out and ran a similar offense that is run here in Carolina. So I just ask that you give Clausen a shot before shooting Fox and Hurney.

3rd round-Brandon LaFell, WR, LSU- I can't believe LaFell "fell" to the 3rd round but again, great value here for Carolina. LaFell will provide the type of receiver that Carolina is looking for to replace Moose. He is a solid possession receiver, doesn't have blazing speed but is a solid blocking WR and will provide a nice option for Moore or Clausen. The only concern is that he has the tendency to drop balls but all will be improved through time.

3rd round- Armanti Edwards, QB/WR, App St.- This was actually a obvious pick if you think about it. Carolina has been eying Edwards the whole entire time and I think he is going to be a great fit for us. He can play QB in our wildcat packages and also could be use as a WR in the slot player.

So like any year we draft, just give them time and give them a chance. I know there is a lot of negative feedback with the Clausen pick but again, it was all about value and it was completely obvious that Clausen was the BPA.

Just giving you a hard time. I'm warming up to the Clausen pick and I LOVE the two WR's. All in all I'm pretty happy with how things went.

I feel like we addressed our biggest need aggressively and I hope we can add some peices to the D now.

haha its cool, no harm done. I just type really fast and sometimes I don't think about what I typed until it is done.

I'll post in this thread here just because I agree more with the OP's comments than with Zod's.

Clausen: I was torn when we made the pick, but in hindsight, it was the correct one. Talent before positional needs. Note that this is different from the Brown pick from last year too, we didn't trade up for him. We used a 2nd round pick and nothing more to take someone who may end up being an elite NFL QB. I'll gamble with those odds. Amazing value.

LaFell: I'm OK with him, but I don't love him. I think the FO is going to take some more risks this year with the picks, which is why they picked LaFell over a guy like Shipley.

Edwards: Don't really like this pick. If the panthers use a 2nd round pick on a pure project receiver, would you be happy with it? I wouldn't and that's basically what happened here. Even if this guy succeeds, it's gonna take him a few years to learn the position. There were better players here imo.
