Backup QB

Andy Dalton is a free agent and getting long in the tooth. 

Who is your target for backup QB? 

Top 10 Free Agents

Darnold - most likely to be re-signed by Minnesota 

Wilson - Will most likely be looking for a starting spot

Fields - probably wants a starting gig but could be an interesting free agent Canales could work with

Winston - really good or really bad

Flacco - See Andy Dalton 

Brissett - OK backup, not much upside 

Rudolph - see Brissett 

Wentz - I'd be interested in see what Canales could do with him. 

Lance - wouldn't mind a third stringer under Canales to eventually be the backup. Played OK against Washington in final game. Probably will stay in Dallas

I saw where the talking heads think there will be plenty of mid to late round QBs available. I kind of like Rourke from Indiana.

This draft is perfect for this--Beck (stock tanked this year--could be developed), Dart, Howard, Rourke, etc--lotta talent there.  I am not sure a veteran clip board holder for $5m is the answer.  Get a fourth round rookie for less than $2m--and if he balls out, that is a good problem to have--even if you stay with Bryce, your backup just became a first rounder in a trade.

that does bother me--depth at DT, WR, TE, LB--all seem to be there in the fourth and maybe fifth.

If Bryce is the man I like going the veteran route. At least this year.

I did find it curious Canales moved Jack Plummer to the active roster before the end of the season. Maybe Canales likes him enough to consider him as a potential option as a future backup.

I'd try go a younger QB who was drafted early. Maybe Cabales can make them look good in preseason for trade bait

I wouldn't absolutely hate a QB in the 4th but we have so many holes, I'm not sure. I guess it depends how the draft falls.

I wouldn't mind keeping Dalton for another season if he'll sign the deal.

I did a mock draft or two and both of them had several good college QBs available in round 4. It might be worth a shot on a young quarterback that can learn DCs offense. Definitely needs to be an accurate passer.

Rourke in the later rounds. He played this season on a partially torn ACL and a broken thumb on his throwing hand. Dude is tough.
