Prediction: Matt Moore will be traded

How could this have been the plan all along when we had no idea of Clausen falling to our spot. Moore won't get traded.

My guess is they intended to add some QB as an insurance policy in case Moore gets hurt. I think they thought either McCoy might be available at 48 or at least Tony Pike or Dan Lefevour would be available in later rounds....but when a guy who is NFL draft rated at 8.6 (Bradford was rated 8.7 and Suh & McCoy were 8.8) was available at the 48 pick that's a pretty compelling risk/reward ratio at a position of need.

Again, Todd McShay wanted to get his name out there to be the next Mel Kiper, so the best way to do that is take a loud, persistent & controversial stand on a high profile player and drip negative spin over a period of weeks. Clausen was just the unlucky guy he chose to screw.

Yeah I am not saying they weren't looking for QB insurance but this was definitely not the plan that was laid out by the OP. There's no way they thought they were getting starter material in this draft, they just got lucky with the way the chips fell. It was definitely a great value pick but to say this is how the Panthers planned it is downright stupid. They aren't/weren't going to trade Moore because the front office knew Jimmy or Colt would fall to us. We stood pat for a reason. It's not like we were going out our way to trade up for these guys.

Dumb thread. Moore ain't going nowhere. We got 2 young talented QB's when some teams dont have one good QB. You people should enjoy that luxury and stop complaining.

Agreed. This can make a difference in team morale, too. If the starter gets hurt, sometimes you'll see a team let down a bit. Not even conciously, but just because they know the team is wounded without the starter.

If you know you can still win with the back-up in the game, its easier to give 100% for the team knowing it will still pay off.

Did you ever hear the 49ers fans complain about having to put up with Steve Young holding the clipboard for Joe Montana? Hell no, that's a goooooooood problem to have.

LOL yah what an accomplishment.

"Hey we don't think you'll throw 25 interceptions next year."

lol.

Speaking of trades I wonder if we could trade sam mills fan to saints report. maybe we could get some empty printer cartridges or something.

LMAO. Win. You beat out Smoots in this thread. Nicely done.

Also, if Moore IS traded, it will be to the Vikings.

See there if we had one of your great draft guides we would not have all this silliness.

LOL

On the contrary! It'd be ME that was getting cussed at! lol

On the serioius side, we have been looking for YEARS for a young, talented QB to come in and be the heir apparent beyond Delhomme... The right fit has just never presented itself (LeFors? Serously???)... Going into this draft, I GUARANTEE everyone here, that neither they (nor 99% of the country, experts included) expected Claussen to fall that far... For a QB with the pedigree, experience, tools, talent, upside and all the other stuff you wanna throw in there, to be sitting in their lap at the 48th pick........ Well, honestly gang, it's really a no brainer... I'm not a Moore hater, and his supporters won't like me saying Claussen was the right pick... But the bottom line is:

1. We went into the season, he was third on the depth chart... Third... Fox and Co didn't just do that because they're mean people... There is a reason he was that low... There is a reason he was undrafted... There is a reason we claimed him from an unprotected practice squad in Dallas... He may be a talented QB, and he may have a nice career, but to this point the bottom line is all we know of him is that he didn't perform well enough in practice to unseat Josh McCown for the backup QB position.......... JOSH MCCOWN... He couldn't beat out Vinny..... VINNY?? I agree with everyone here... He's had a GREAT few games as a starter... But men who get paid much more than any of us here to do this for a living, and to know much more than we do, have had him at the bottom of the depth chart for 3 years now... Me personally? I think he's a fine QB... But I'm by NO means comfortable annointing him the savior of the team, with something around a half dozen games under his belt...

2. In case everyone didn't notice, our #2 was Hunter Cantwell... Raise your hand if you were comfortable with that... Keep em up, while I count... And don't give me the 'we were going to sign someone worth a damn as a backup' routine... That person isn't out there as a FA... And don't start about Bulger... At the very worst, Claussen is a backup QB that offers insurance against a Moore injury... Best case scenario, we just got our starting QB for the next decade, and Moore can slide in as the very solid #2 option...

3. Last time I checked, Moore is a FA at the end of the season... Lotta people assuming that he not only has a Pro Bowl year, but that he also resigns... Sure is nice to have an insurance policy now regardless...

4. Contrary to popular opinion, it is NOT: God, Jesus and Matt Moore

And what's with all this 'feel good story' crap??? "oh I hope he starts because he's a nice guy and he's worked hard"... Delhomme was a feel good story until he started throwing interceptions to everyone this side of the kid who caught Mean Joe's jersey... Then the 'feel good story' turned into Jekyl and Hyde, and even his longtime supporters calling for his head on a pike... You want a feel good story, go rent Rudy... You want to win football games, let the two kids fight it out for the right to lead the team... Competition only makes them both better... We win a Super Bowl with either one of them, and I promise, you'll feel good enough... So chill with all the hate before the kid even puts on a jersey...

Reading some of the reactions here is just flat out comical... TRICK Moore into signing??? Seriously? Is that serious? That's the most hilarious thing I've ever seen posted on the board... Well, maybe not the most hilarious... Ok, maybe not even top 10... But what's with the paranoia??? If you guys REALLY want what is best for the team, then WELCOME the competition... QB is arguably the single most important position on any team... Why wouldn't you not only want the best option possible to start for your team, but to also want the best possible backup option you could have? Good Lord people... Be happy the team improved, and got deeper...

Anyway... Bottom line is, the front office had absolutely no clue a widely projected top 10 selection would be all theirs late in the second round... This, in my humble opinion, was the absolute right call to make... Couple him with the WR talent we got in round 3, and I give the Panthers a solid A-... But that's simply my amatuer opinion... That, and a dollar will get you a cheap cup of coffee somewhere...

Doesn't matter what for. Did I say we would get much for him? No, but we could get something. He does have some trade value.

As much value as Jake did. I like Moore and think he will be the starter, but he hasn't proved anything to get anything and the FO knows that....this is pickle in the sky thinking.
