Thoughts, prayers, condolences, I dunno

I just needed to take an opportunity to vent...but I spent last night in a quiet little hospital room, watching my best friend of over 35 years gasp to take his last breaths before he eventually passed away.

He'd been diagnosed with esophogus cancer 18 months ago and was given 9-12 months to live. True fighter he was, that wasn't enough and he fought for the extra time. Although having the knowledge he was going to go gave us the opportunity to say our goodbyes, it never made it much easier when the time actually came. I'm drained, I'm sad, I feel rather empty I guess. Good guys don't need to die like this, especially if they are only 42 years old!

Thanks to you people here on the huddle...I know internet relationships are much different than real life, but I do consider so many of you as my friend and even when I'm a dick, I certainly do want you to know I appreciate you all.

Thanks for listening and make sure to give those that you care about an extra little squeeze today, you just never know who is next!

Sorry to hear that Hawk.

I maybe the oldest person on here. I have had close Friends and Family die from War, Illness and car accidents.

All I can tell you is 2 things.

Death will happen and all the prayer or love in the world isn't enough sometimes.

And,

It doesn't get any easier.

I have quit going to funerals. Not because I don't want to see them again, but I want to remember them they way there were. (This was before I saw "Wedding Crashers"! LOL)

A wake is far better, then a funeral. A Wake, you celebrate a person's life, not their death! A Wake, you sit around and share stories about a person's life (and there is usually alcohol involved!) A funeral, you share stories about a person's death.

I am truly sorry to hear that you've lost someone so dear. May he rest in peace and it can only be some comfort that he isn't suffering anymore.

There is never a good time to lose someone you love even if you know it's coming and you have tried to get ready for it. God bless him and may he have peace knowing how well he was loved here on earth.

One day at a time...one step at a time. You will always miss him but hopefully in another time you will focus more on the great things that made you friends and this won't hurt so much. Take care....<<<<hugs>>>>>

I am so sorry for your loss. A 35 yr best friend relationship is an awesome one. I know this is just terrible. My heart goes out to you. It sounds like your friend was a great guy. I am sending you a hug....and will keep you in my thoughts. I am glad you let us know.
