the dude does not always catch the ball. you've only seen the highlight reels. he's actually a bit unreliable. this in addition to his qb in college not having any kind of zip on his passes. he got lobs thrown at him and he still had trouble. he's also not a good run blocker, something the panthers covet as much as anything in a receiver. i'd love to have him, but not with our 2nd round pick. there are too many other receiving options that are better.

cbs sportsline the end all be all of ratings, lol. there are plenty of rankings from just as legit and knowledgeable sources that have him as one of the top 5-6 WRs in this class and plenty that have him going in the 2nd round.

btw, dez bryant has just as bad a problem catching the ball and is seen as being inconsistent in most phases.

gilyard catches enough to be dangerous which is the best thing to describe him whenever that ball gets in his hands as a receiver and returner (two HUGE needs we have).

btw...i did watch quite a few cincy games this year because i was interested in tony pike as a QB at the beginning of the season but saw gilyard was pretty fantastic at what he did.

2nd round isn't too early for him.

we don't need a return man with our 2nd round pick. he's not going to be returning kicks, he's going to be starting next to steve smith. maybe not this year, but definitely down the road unless he's somehow worse than jarrett. look at ford or holliday later if we want a return man. we need a starter who is reliable and a good run blocker.

we need a starter next to smitty regardless of whether he can block. if i had a choice of a #2 that could return kicks or block down field i'm going to choose the guy who can return kicks. we got other people that can block downfield. we don't have a good returner.

fox doesn't use starters as return men, unless there's no other option. you know that. he'd sooner use munnerlyn, rosario, or stewart than put a starter in.
