Evero will return as DC

Not a fan of this. One of the most important traits for a good DC is in game adjustments and Evero is horrible at that. Offenses attacked us in the same exact way all game long throughout the entire season. Yea, I get that we lacked personal but a simple bracket, doubling a WR for example isn’t hard to do.

Doubling a WR with how awful our front 7 was? Sure, let's do that and let other teams run for 300 yards against us...

Things like stunts, doubling WRs, exotic blitzes are things you do when you can stop a basic dive play without allowing 6+ yards. But when other teams could literally just call run plays the entire game and probably score every possession, your hands are pretty much tied.

Am I saying Evero is a great DC... no (at least not for us so far). But people thinking that we would somehow be a much better defense with any other DC are just morons... Horn is literally the only player on our defense that starts for any other team and there may be 2-3 other players that could make the active roster of any other team. Over half of our defense was at their best practice squad players and at their worst scout team JV players...

I really wouldn’t expect much movement at all from a coaching perspective. Seems we’ve gotten to used to an annual clearing house here when this may be more of a hold offseason staff wise.

Seems like Canales has momentum and the guys he likes. Just gotta see what happens next year for better or worse.

I trust Canalas. He had a reason to let him go if he wanted to, but knows the man behind the scenes, and knows he’s a good DC. People have become too knee jerk with this team. Constancy is what we desperately need, and by the end of the season, I couldn’t event name you 5 starting players on our defense once horn and Jewel were out.

I have an indifferent feeling about this. My main issue if he leftd, he's spend the better part of two years getting players that either played in or know his system. Plus a big point of his hire was the shot at getting comp 3rd(what a joke..) if he leaves. Firing him doesn't help either of those, but either are good enough to keep him too.

You can make a good case for both sides. He's still very young and maybe finding his problem in fixing this 32nd rank run D. I know he's got to solve it this off-season along with many other issues like points, sacks(lack of), TOs etc.

I dare say Mike Turdovac feels are hitting as well.

Plus Im sitting here thinking "Is everos sytem rookie friendly", I think "No" currently. The main path to fixing this defense is the draft, so that's a huge issue currently.

If if ifififi ifif if they somewhat hit on a games wrecking edge form the draft, I feel it affect the whole team like adding a great QB.

If they resign Michael Jackson(they should within $$$ reasons). He would have 2 CBs, CB depth, Dbrown, Arob, Jewell, DJ Wom, Clowny. That's decent enough if they added the NT, young stud edge, safety, MLB. Finding CB is one of the hardest spots to fill, I think its petty well stocked and give those guys a pass rush...... Defense would be mid-pack within a couple weeks.

That style sounds good, and LeBeau and JJ are for sure legends, but you really need some dawgs for that style to flourish I believe. The LeBeau style seems to need some dominant pass rushers, and JJ's style tends to need a dominant secondary and MLB. What happens when you have neither? What happens when you have league average talent at every position? Bend but don't break starts to make a lot of sense in that scenario. Maybe he'll get more aggressive as we add talent to the Defense.

Pressuring by blitzing can actually help a defense that is young and inexperienced.  The secondary doesn't have to cover forever and can allow QB pressure to help with any blown assignments. Plus putting 7 guys on the line instead of 4 that are easily accounted for helps disguise where you are bringing pressure and messes up protections. Evero never varied his coverages to even take advantage of what strengths he did have. This defense gave up more points than any other defense in history and gave up more points in the last 2 minutes of each half than any other team in the league. That is bend until you break prevent defense and it was historically bad. That makes no sense and there is no excuse for it.

I'm ok with this. He had literally nothing to work with on the field. I would have been OK with moving on, too, but I don't think Evero was the reason the defense struggled this year.

he is too conservative.

you cant allow teams to just continually run the ball down your throat.

at some point you have to start blitzing up the run gaps.

id rather get beat making the other team make big plays in the air then be continually gashed for 8-15 yards on the ground.

I’m underwhelmed, but I can see Canales reasoning. Also, would they find someone better or not? He just seem stuck in his ways and doesn’t seem to adjust. I also feel he doesn’t take advantage of a talent like Horn to allow him to travel with the best opposing WR etc. I also don’t like the smaller NT in his system.

That all said, this is the year of a lot of coming upgrades on defense, so hopefully it will all work out. I’m thinking we might target Jalon Walker or Malaki Starks in the draft. Not sure where Graham would play in his defense considering we already have Brown and A’shawn as ends.

we had the wors defense in nfl history.

my sister couldn't have done worse.

I disagree. It’s not hard to double a WR and still play the run. It’s called a bracket which you can use with a drop down safety or an OLB. Look up how it’s done. Also in obvious passing situations, doubling a wr is not hard. Falcons torched us in obvious passing situations time after time. 2 min drill, 3rd and long to where there’s no excuse to not focus more on Drake London. Mooney was out. London was the only WR Penix was looking at.  Evero simply can’t make adjustments. He’ll most likely be fired next year. Wish we would’ve just ripped the bandaid off this year. To call all people morons who think we can do better than Evero is a very ignorant and arrogant statement. Who the hell are you?

Getting Brown back is going to be a big plus for Evero. I still believe many of our defensive players that we signed were signed to complement Brown.  Once Brown went down, we didn't have a legitimate backup to fill his role making those signed JAG.

We need to address the D-Line with our first 2 picks.  If Carter or Graham are available at 8 than we take him and address the other position with the round 2 pick.  My hope is Graham drops to 8 and we take an Edge with round 2.  From my understanding this is a good draft for Edge players.

Morgan is going to have to do a great job fixing this problem.  I expect us to be very active in D-Line help in Free Agency and the draft.   We need studs to start and have solid, productive backups.  Right now, our backup could barely start in the XFL.

Our secondary would be much better if has some sort of consistent pressure on a QB.

    • Re-sign Tommy Tremble Feleipe Franks - great special teamer, 10 SP tackles David Moore - cheap 1year deal to be our 4 or 5 WR J.J. Jansen - One of the best in the game  Nick Scott - decent 4th SAF, we only have 1 on the current roster (I think we'll try to bring back Mike Jackson but we also have to pay Jaycee Horn, we may have too much $ allocated to our starting CB's)  Tender as RFA Cade Mays  Rasheem Blackshear
    • Moving on would’ve been trading him when we had the chance like we did with Diontae. I mean, this is the same organization that dumped Mayfield to the street midseason for playing poorly. Yes, Dalton getting in a car accident may end up being that dumb luck moment, but given our recent history, I'll give them a bit of credit for not taking the expected exit ramp of giving him to someone else for the last best offer we probably would've gotten. At least at the time, that move would not have surprised me.
    • We are going to load up this defense in the offseason and I'm excited for it
