Carolina Panther Free Agents

Below is the list of the players who we may loose in FA this Offseason. Is there anyone on this list we absolutely NEED to come back. What do you think? I'd probably want to retain MJack, XWoods, Franks for ST, Hekker, Jansen if he doesn't retire, Mays or Cobett to have a center on the roster, and maybe D. Moore if we cut Thielan.

I'd like to see Tremble come back; it seems like he's developing good rapport with Bryce.  That one long pass where Bryce scrambled outside the pocket and Tremble turned upfield right in sync as Bryce let the ball go, was some beautiful mind meld improv between QB and receiver that I haven't seen in a while from this team.

But I also support Tremble to pursue what I believe to be his lifelong dream, of becoming an Olympic hurdler.  Three things in life are certain: death, taxes, and Tommy Tremble making an unnecessary hurdle in the open field.

Panthers WR Adam Thielen will go through his normal process of the last few years and evaluate whether he wants to continue playing. Says he’s leaning in a certain direction ‘’but I’m not going to tell you what that is.’’

He's technically under contract correct?

Thielen has one more year under contract. Now, him calling it a career early is not out of the question. He did get hurt and missed time this season, and Coker is showing signs of being that reliable target that he is now. Sure, we'll likely be better next season but we most likely aren't going to be good enough to make any meaningful playoff push, if we can even get there in the first place. Could very well come down to whether it's worth one more year and risk a more severe injury or say he's proven enough and that he believes that our young receivers can pick up the slack.

Just as a general observation, I do think Dave Canales and Dan Morgan have done a good job creating and fostering an atmosphere that players want to be part of.

That can be important.

I sure hope they remind their agents about that.

Among the unrestricted:

Keep:

  • QB Andy Dalton - He's good for Bryce's development, and great to have as a backup
  • TE Tommy Tremble - Good locker room energy. And we will need a run blocking TE once Ian is finally gone.
  • LB Shaq Thompson - Home team discount
  • CB Mike Jackson - Was asked to do a lot. I like how he plays.
  • P Johnny Hekker - If the price is right
  • LS JJ Jansen - No one better suggest otherwise. This man is a legend!
  • S Sam Franklin - Good depth for the right price

Pound Sand:

  • C Austin Corbett
  • C Brady Christensen - He's already talking about wanting to make the move that's best for his family. Let him test the waters. I don't see commitment to the team here.
  • TE Ian Thomas - F***ing FINALLY
  • TE Feleipe Franks
  • WR David Moore - Good player, but ultimately a JAG. Replaceable.
  • RB Mike Boone
  • DE DeShawn Williams
  • OLB Cam Gill
  • CB Caleb Farley
  • S Xavier Woods - Unfortunately he's an ideal player for a bygone era. I feel like I remember more penalties against him than positive plays. And more than once I saw him wind up for a Madden 2004 "hit stick" tackle only to completely whiff. The entire safety room needs a refresh. We need guys who force fumbles, not punishers.
  • S Jordan Fuller
  • S Nick Scott
  • S Lonnie Johnson
  • K Eddy Piñeiro - Sorry, I want a kicker who's good from 55+. I saw too many games this year decided by a last-30-seconds-of-regulation drive to the opponent's 40 to set up a game-winner. Eddy is never gonna be that guy.
