Who would Canales target? I doubt Saleh says yes to us. Fraizer? Rivera? Wilks?

Frazier maybe, Rivera or Wilks good or bad I don't think bringing coaches from our past will help. Rivera and Wilks do not have that killer instinct. I don't want to protect a lead through prevent defense. The only preventing it does is prevent us from winning.

I was on board with keeping him until it was pointed out.

The Lions probably lost more defensive starters than we did and yet they still managed to go 15-2. While we don't have the same depth. Allowing 200+ yards rushing the past 5 or 6 weeks is unexcuseable.

I think that Evero is a solid coach with tons of potential, but man was it tough to watch the defense sit in cover 3 for most games then trying to create errant throws with an occasional blitz.

But with the talent he was working with... I mean... kind of hard to run his usual scheme.

If they bring him back, they'll need another DT, a blitzing LB (Shaq can do that!), and top end safeties.

If they don't bring him back... Robert Saleh? 😄

He's terrible and I really just can't fuging stand the 3-4 defense. You have to have such a stacked roster with personnel specific to a 3-4 for a 3-4 to work and not get totally gashed by the run (which we have been every single year we've run a 3-4 even back when Ron switched to it to try to save his ass).

Rhule may have sucked but at least he had our defense far overperforming their talent level with Snow running his 4-3. No brainer to can Evero and hire someone to run a 4-3. I'd even be all for considering Rivera as DC if he was open to a reunion.

That’s what I’m thinking. People keep clamoring for Salah but he’ll be the hug DC name on the market this year. No top DC candidate with many options will choose this defense to coach

We have a couple of great pieces and we are going to need to revamp the rest of the D entirely, including in the draft. It's an opportunity for a D coordinator to truly build their own D. That could be attractive to a lot of guys.

We don't have the personnel to execute his scheme - but instead of adjusting at all (e.g. moving Horn or Jackson to other teams #1s) he simply let them play and ugh.

I think Evero may have been just going through the motions a bit too, but he also has the least talent on D available I've ever seen on a team.

I think he's a good coordinator overall, but it's time to move on.

Our defensive roster was definitely worse in 2020, not even a debate. Remember this is well before Brown broke out and Burns was only in his 2nd year. And Phil Snow had them top 10 in the league.

Yes the roster this year was bad too, but Evero was just flat out terrible.

Snow ran a 3-3-5 I thought?

Chinn is extremely talented. That D had Shaq didn't it?  I don't remember who all was healthy that year. But this D feels less talented. I'd need to look at the rosters but I'm pretty sure 2020 was far weaker at CB, a push at S, and better on the front 7...

    • I am seeing Vrabel, Johnson, and Saleh as the 3 hottest candidates.  Many see Johnson as the most coveted--but I disagree.  Johnson is a technical guy--a creative offensive mind who has not been a head coach yet.  I think Vrabel or Saleh are better choices because they are more about culture and seem to have the respect of players.  I also think Vrabel might be making a mistake going to New England, I think he is the best leader of men--followed by Saleh.  Dan Campbell is not a football genius, but he knows how to motivate. He gets family and the power of the locker room.  Having said that, Johnson needs to go to a job with a solid culture--not one that is in disarray.  After the presser in Jax with the owner who threatened to fire his GM while sitting beside him on national TV--that is not the job for him.  I also think Brady needs a more solid environment, but I am not sure he is head coach material.
    • Legette body catching is really worrisome to me. Never uses hands, I think that one catch this week was the only one I remember.  Coker is amazing. Could replace Thielen long term.  All for a late round rookie RB, CUT SANDERS. JT Sanders on the other hand has me very excited. We need defense but a true #1 would do wonders for Bryce and XL won't be that guy as soon as next year if at all. Tee, Tet, GW, one of those would be exciting.  So happy for Bryce.
    • The plan this year was to find out if Bryce was our guy, establish a culture, and build the identity of this team. I'd say we accomplished our goal. Now of course Bryce didn't start off the season as we hoped but I respect the leadership of this team to not panic and to stay the course.
