Who would Canales target? I doubt Saleh says yes to us. Fraizer? Rivera? Wilks?

Frazier maybe, Rivera or Wilks good or bad I don't think bringing coaches from our past will help. Rivera and Wilks do not have that killer instinct. I don't want to protect a lead through prevent defense. The only preventing it does is prevent us from winning.

I was on board with keeping him until it was pointed out.

The Lions probably lost more defensive starters than we did and yet they still managed to go 15-2. While we don't have the same depth. Allowing 200+ yards rushing the past 5 or 6 weeks is unexcuseable.

I think that Evero is a solid coach with tons of potential, but man was it tough to watch the defense sit in cover 3 for most games then trying to create errant throws with an occasional blitz.

But with the talent he was working with... I mean... kind of hard to run his usual scheme.

If they bring him back, they'll need another DT, a blitzing LB (Shaq can do that!), and top end safeties.

If they don't bring him back... Robert Saleh? 😄

He's terrible and I really just can't fuging stand the 3-4 defense. You have to have such a stacked roster with personnel specific to a 3-4 for a 3-4 to work and not get totally gashed by the run (which we have been every single year we've run a 3-4 even back when Ron switched to it to try to save his ass).

Rhule may have sucked but at least he had our defense far overperforming their talent level with Snow running his 4-3. No brainer to can Evero and hire someone to run a 4-3. I'd even be all for considering Rivera as DC if he was open to a reunion.

That’s what I’m thinking. People keep clamoring for Salah but he’ll be the hug DC name on the market this year. No top DC candidate with many options will choose this defense to coach

We have a couple of great pieces and we are going to need to revamp the rest of the D entirely, including in the draft. It's an opportunity for a D coordinator to truly build their own D. That could be attractive to a lot of guys.

We don't have the personnel to execute his scheme - but instead of adjusting at all (e.g. moving Horn or Jackson to other teams #1s) he simply let them play and ugh.

I think Evero may have been just going through the motions a bit too, but he also has the least talent on D available I've ever seen on a team.

I think he's a good coordinator overall, but it's time to move on.

Our defensive roster was definitely worse in 2020, not even a debate. Remember this is well before Brown broke out and Burns was only in his 2nd year. And Phil Snow had them top 10 in the league.

Yes the roster this year was bad too, but Evero was just flat out terrible.

Snow ran a 3-3-5 I thought?

Chinn is extremely talented. That D had Shaq didn't it?  I don't remember who all was healthy that year. But this D feels less talented. I'd need to look at the rosters but I'm pretty sure 2020 was far weaker at CB, a push at S, and better on the front 7...

    • 7/10 is appropriate. He is doing some great stuff with play calling. You all wanted a young offensive mind, now you are saying he needs to not call plays. That is nonsense and there are a plethora of coaches that have won that way calling either their offensive or defensive systems full time. He made Bryce look competent after benching and then confident by the end of season. The last three points are for defense which can be remedied by moving on from Evero. Don't get me wrong, they missed a lot of production from guys being hurt and lost to free agency. But right now he has the stats to move on to a different coordinator where he can turn that side of the ball over to him. The culture has changed here and the biggest reason I know is J. Clowney. I have rarely seen that dude enjoy football as much as he did this year. Optimist bully!
    • This is where I'm at with Canales. Players didnt quit down the stretch and thats a ringing endorsement for him.   Morgan did pretty good in FA last offseason shoring up the Oline... last years draft is still a big question mark tho.  How he addresses the defense this offseason will tell us a lot. Overall I am optimistic.  We finally have some continuity with the staff and roster.  If they can get rid of the dead weight and add some talent we could have a competitive team next year.
    • Wilson or DK Metcalf. I think one of the two could be had this offseason, just a matter of price.  If Thielen DOES retire? We're going to need to make some kind of splash. As much attention as the defense needs, need to make sure Bryce has a guy.
