and we have a lot to be optimistic about.  But before the draft, a big free agency season begins.  I'll add some quotes in a moment

"The #Panthers won their thrilling season-finale in overtime to finish 5-12. Now GM Dan Morgan’s work begins again. Carolina has 21 unrestricted free agents and five restricted free agents to sort through this offseason. Commentary & predictions on all;"

Morgan, in particular, will have a lot of work to do this offseason. The defense needs substantial upgrades, and the offense shouldn’t be a finished product, either. Plus, all three specialists are set to hit free agency in March. With an eye toward the future, the Panthers need to consider who they want to bring back for the next chapter of the Canales era. Given the number of one-year deals signed last year, there will be several tough decisions to make in the coming weeks and months.

to put it all in perspective, I have shared this on a few other threads:

Starting in November through today's game, the Panthers had 3 close losses to playoff teams (Chiefs, Bucs, Eagles) and were 4-5 overall.

Not bad.

Corbett is gone...we need a center better than Mays.

As Bear Hands pointed out 3 months ago, Brady is going to get paid and not by us.  I'd love to keep him at center but we can't afford to put that much in our Oline with Ickey about to get paid.

I want CB Jackson back, even if we find someone better to come in.

Tremble?

Shaq is a FA but he's almost 31 and injured all the time.  We drastically need to improve at linebacker.

Would love a DT Edge combo in the first two rounds and to find a stud LB in FA.

Moore won't get a lot of attention from other teams and I'd love to keep him as depth.  Thielen has one more year on his contract.  We gotta hope XL will eat more raccoons and improve.

What do you want to do with backup QB?  I have no problem bringing Dalton back, he's been a good teammate, but I read this week that the Dallas backup is coming to Charlotte

yeah, but I think Mays improved--enough?  Not sure.  However, with limited resources, I would give him another year and invest in the other positions you mentioned.  Hard to say anything definitive right now.

We need another WR at least as good as XL and Coker.  Moore would be an excellent 5th WR.

I am of the mindset that this draft has some really solid backup QB candidates in the mid rounds--Howard, Rourke, Dart, Beck--all could use a couple years of development.  I think the aging veteran is a coach more than a player--just my opinion.

    • Glenn came onboard with Campbell in 2021, which was a 3-13-1 season. They've been winning since. Comparing Evero and Glenn isn't the best example, but Glenn had way more upside.
