And look at the draft capital we had to give up to get it. We went 5-3 down the stretch that season to tank our draft stock then had to gut the team of roster building capital trade up to #1. Perfect example of why late our of contention wins are significant net negatives for the future of an organization.

Right, I agree. But now that we have our franchise QB, what are we losing games for to move up and get now? A WR? A DT? A DE? Not sure Panthers need to be that high to improve any of those positions in this draft. QB is the only position that would garner that kind of a haul.

You gotta think there’s gonna be at least one crazy offer on the phone after the seasons over.  The deeper they go, the crazier.

Yeah, no way I'm letting him walk in FA for a 3rd round comp pick.

I bet they end up trading McCarthy. They were trying to trade up for Maye on the draft but the cost was too high for them to stomach so it's not like they were super sold on McCarthy to begin with. I think they just had QB tunnel vision.

Just better players. The good thing about our roster from a draft standpoint is just throw a dart at the position chart. Whatever you hit there's a really good chance we need better players there.

All things considered, I'd rather have higher picks than lower picks to try to find them.

Do you think our GM would trade today’s performance and results to move up 2 spots in the draft?

Honest question.  It’s his job/career.

In terms of draft capital, going from #6 to #8 is a total of 46pts on updated draft trade charts. That's the equal to the value of pick #89.

I'll take losing that for the reassurance that the team can continue to build around Bryce as QB1. Plenty of DL help in this draft to restock talent with.

I think he'd be crazy if he didn't. We've been doing a pretty good job down the stretch of playing well but losing. That's the ideal outcome for a team out of contention. We just fuged up and actually won two of them.

That's 100% logical - in a vacuum. But you don't think it's more important for the team to learn how to win, than picking a couple of draft picks earlier? Still top 10. Can get great players and develop the team's culture/mindset. This team, particularly the offense, is very young.

We could get 7 if the vikings win tonight

No. I don't think anything would've been different had we lost the coin toss and the Falcons had driven the field for the win.

That's really what it boils down to. Neither defense was doing anything. It's why I was surprised when the Falcons didn't go for two for the win after their last TD... unless they'd already seen the results of the Bucs game.

That's a fair point. But the margin between wins and losses in the NFL is usually very small. Like one or two plays small. They really do have to figure that part out at some point in order to be successful, no matter how much talent they bring in.

Idk the Lions are like a kindred spirit for us I don't wish Darnold any ill but the Vikings have had plenty of regular season success the last several years their fans aren't starved. I'll be pulling for a fellow tortured sports city in Detroit. I hope they win it all.

Generally, I pull for the Lions, but pick 7 is at stake.
