I always felt like Mayfield never got a legitimate shot here. Compare the absurdly limited amount of rope he was given vs what we've given BY.

Tepper thought Darnold and Mayfield were turn key, so when the returns didn't immediately pay off, he got impatient to jettison them.  New team, new system, new everything, even thought they were "veterans" they still needed more time to adapt.

Everyone was questioning that.

The narrative was that Darnold was too dumb to play in the league.

Baker looked like he couldn’t play football when he was here.

Yeah this is revisionist history to the max. There was a massive meltdown when we traded for Sam. Most the board hated it and said he was a bust who couldn’t play.

Who was questioning their NFL athleticism and arm talent? Darnold is basically a prototype in terms of physical talent. Baker is a little undersized but he has a big time arm and decent mobility. Everyone was saying they sucked here but I don't recall anyone saying that it was because they lacked the prerequisite physical talent. Quite the opposite.

Sure, they have the physical talent.

But people doubted their mental ability to play at this level.

Read what is being typed. Y'all are assuming a lot and you don't have to. It's been laid out.

But you still think a receiver was supposed to maul his way through two DBs to get to a badly underthrown ball and dive down to catch a "jump ball" so I got a realize what I'm working with here.

What are you talking about? Go link the post. You’re so full of poo dude, you know that isn’t even close to what I said.

you started a post trying to make Bryce look bad under your guise of being so impartial and fair but it’s dumb logic that makes no sense.

First of all.. you don't have to "try" to make Bryce look bad.

Both have decent defenses (Minn has a very good D) and true #1 WRs to complement their other weapons. The Panthers are sorely lacking in both areas. That said, they played respectably for the most part the last two months. Let's see if they can improve the defense and shore up the offense in the off-season.

It is funny how Darnold and Mayfield found success, though. Both seem to be good guys, so I wish them well.

Exactly. That's different than Bryce.

How? Doubt is doubt.

Darnold - he’s not mentally capable to play at this level.

Bryce - He’s not physical capable to play at this level.

The narrative was wrong about Darnold and is probably wrong about Bryce.

My fault, I went back and looked and it was another poster who made that wild argument.

You were simply arguing that the receiver should've done a better job trying to fight through the DBs to make the catch.

I just don't think you're following the logic. I think I've laid it out pretty clearly. All three sucked (suck) here. Darnold is a prototype physical talent but seemed to have incurable mental issues. Baker checked the stature and athleticism boxes and has a big time arm but just seemed too erratic. Bryce oftentimes simply doesn't look like he physically belongs on an NFL field both from a size standpoint and physical traits standpoint. These are very different situations.

Physical vs mental. There's a chance the latter is fixable. The former isn't. There's a reason why old coach sayings like "you can't coach height" or "you can't coach speed" exist. It's because they're true. You might be able to coach someone up from a technique perspective and from a mental perspective but you can't fix a fundamental lack of talent. That's why the old saying "those who can't do coach" exists.

It's weird this needs explaining.

They never even gave Baker the keys in reality.  It was bologna competition all camp and preseason.  Reps split and lost that were needed to go into a season with a new O and team.  Everything is failure by design at the top.
