And now you're constantly trying to get rid of that while he's 23 and showing regular improvement sooo... you're making the exact opposite of the point you think you are, by quoting their best statistical seasons that came years later.  It could easily be interpreted to say surrounding cast, scheme, and development time are needed and that qbs can actually improve over time.

I wasn’t gonna say it but thank you.

I always felt like Mayfield never got a legitimate shot here. Compare the absurdly limited amount of rope he was given vs what we've given BY.

That was because Rhule knew he didn’t have time. We really should have kept him, but at the same time if we still went Reich it would have never worked.

That's the thing, there is no reason to make that decision now because they don't have to consider 5th year option right now.

Not now, but about this time next year.  Generally that deal gets done in the offseason heading into year 4.  If a QB goes into the season in their 4th year with no 5th year option, you know where the team stands with that player.

I just find it utterly hilarious just how badly this place trashed Darnold and Mayfield while they were here and now we keep finding excuses to blame their success somewhere else on everything else except us.

It’s sad that people are stilling putting the blame on the QB.

Accurate in a talent vacuum but no one was questioning Mayfield and Darnold's NFL talent.

Yes they were that’s why they were traded or released.  You’re obsessed with size and arm strength, that’s not the problem with this offense.

Absolutely false. Performance on the field does not equal raw physical talent.

And it's absolutely false that I'm obsessed about size and arm strength. I've said repeatedly over the years that ideal size and arm strength gets QBs over drafted more than anything else. But you have to check the box. With today's more spread offenses and shotgun formations ideal size is less important than it was on the past but arm strength still matters. You don't have to be Josh Allen but it's a really tough row to hoe when you're Bryce Young.

Everyone was questioning that.

The narrative was that Darnold was too dumb to play in the league.

Baker looked like he couldn’t play football when he was here.

To be fair, nobody outside of a few posters on this board question Bryce’s talent this year either. Everywhere else is positive on him since his return. Gotta imagine by year 4 (if you’re comparing to Darnold and Bakers year 4) it’ll be the same.

Sam had every opportunity available, he failed himself. On the other hand, one could argue that Baker didn't get a fair chance. He was traded for late, had to split snaps with Sam, and never seemed to find his rhythm.

Either way context matters, both players had their chances and neither were successful
