If we are getting blown out enough to sit Bryce, Bryce might lose his job again.

So if Mike Evans puts up 200 receiving yards, Yosh Nijman gets blasted for three sacks and the Panthers rush for 12 yards, you're benching Young as a result.

I see it this way--what if you play Hubbard and he blows a knee?  I would not be surprised to see Horn benched.  I would not be surprised to see veterans like Jewell, Wonnum, Clowney, and maybe even Bryce benched at some point to prevent some injury that might impact the offseason/camp etc.  In addition, it would assure a top 6 or so pick.  In addition, you get to see how players like Plummer and a few others look when the bullets are real (unlike in preseason.)  I realize that some of you think this is lunacy, but it happens and it is smart, actually.  I think you try to win, you just try to win with developmental players while protecting your core for 2025.

No but if it is 43-0 as the original post used hypothetically then yes Bryce would have blame in that.

Nijman has already played and did decent, and the OL hasn't really changed so we will likely get more than 12 yards.

Whats more likely is Bryce going 20/39 for 178 yards and a pick because his fragile self confidence collapsed again.

    • Good points. The Lions went from averaging about ~19 points given up per game midway thru the year to more than 30 over the last 4 games. Some of that is the offenses they've faced (Bills, 49ers with Purdy, Green Bay), but still, the injuries are very clearly impacting their D... They have like 15 players from their D on IR, and now they're playing a buncha JAGs and below - just like us. I'd say Evero's D has come up on some big possessions when games have been close. Where the D has been blown out, it is usually because the offense has really, really sputtered.  Until that final drive of the game, they'd held the Chiefs decently well. They contained TB the first time and PHI the week after; we win both those games if not for offensive miscues. Overall I think Evero's defense this year wasn't as bad as the stats will indicate, but it ultimately may be bad enough to cost him his job... We'll see.
    • No brainer to take the option. He's been steadily improving. If he continues to develop, get that second contract figured out and let's move on to the next roster spot!
