Anybody who thinks we are good to go at WR is fooling themselves

WR is a huge need in my opinion. I just don't think it has to be one of the top picks unless the best player at the time is a wide receiver. So if Graham, Carter and Hunter are off the board, then TMC should probably be the pick.

We definitely need a #1 receiver and to me this is an off season priority. We also need to rebuild that defensive front 7. My wish list would also include a stud center.

It's possible we end up in the range McMillan drops to. I suspect we will draft some ho-hum pass rusher instead.

Rebuilding the front 7 is a multi-year project but we have to actually start the process at some point.

Center is a need, for sure. We have a middling guy that is very injury prone and two backup caliber C's. Get a 10+ year solution.

That is exactly like I feel.  Not a huge fan of the WRs this year.  I do, however, like Xavier Restrepo from Miami in round 2.  He has great hands and is always open.  Probably more suited for the slot.

I also like the kid Lance from ND State. Kid has hands and can get open. I hope he goes unnoticed and we can snatch him up on day 3 or UDFA.

We need the Jags and Browns to win.  They are teams NOT taking a QB (I still can't believe Cleveland restructures Watson).  The Giants and possibly Titans are. That said, those two teams are the only ones standing between us and any non-QB player we want beside Travis Hunter.  He will be a Patriot.

Or someone like Egbuka. There seems to be a lot of separation between the very thin elite WR talent and a pretty deep second tier pool of WR's. The question is when will the run on those guys start. Given that our premium 2nd rounder is Chicago's the fact that we are currently not picking until the latter half of the 2nd round may put us out of the range where those guys are available.

I agree that receiver is a huge need and I think it will be addressed via Higgins or with a high draft pick. Honestly, if reports are true, I'd offer our first for Garett Willson and smile all the way podium to hand my card in to my second round pick.

Wilson or Higgins are a great solution but we have no idea if they want anything to do with us. Frankly, it may have to involve a top 5 at position salary(if not #1 overall) to make it even a possibility.

I think we could use a stud TE as well, and if we shift to the 4-3, a MLB.  We are going to have to sign a few free agents--not sure a true #1 will be available--free agency (cost) or draft (talent).  I think our time might be better spent working Coker and XL over the offseason and bringing in WR or two with a high ceiling whose stock is down.

Cade Mays is slightly below average but still young--I think we have to get him more comfortable with the C position and go with him another year.  Just my opinion.

Defense is the priority.  I was so sick of listening the announcers on TV Sunday talk about what a great job Robinson has done anchoring the middle.  He has a 54.1 PFF score which is higher than I thought it would be.  Shy Tuttle is at 44.1 which is illegal in 34 states.  We get Brown back--huge upgrade---and we could use another--I think we are likely going 4-3, so it is possible Robinson would be better beside Brown; his cap hit will be $8m, so that is not higher than a first round DT would be.  I still think you grab a DT later on day 2.

In a 4-3 (assuming that is what we do) We need an Edge pass rusher to play with Clowney.  On the other side of the ball, Wonnum has been getting pressures but not holding the edge well.  DJ Johnson has not been getting pressures but is doing better at holding the edge.  Barno is on the smallish side for a 4-3 DE, but he has looked decent in limited play.  What do you do?  Depends on the defense, but I would say get a stud pass rusher early--as in round 1 if possible.

I also think MLB is a bigger need than advertised--Jewell has not been great--people think he is better than he is.30 and has only 60+ tackles.  Understand that the DTs have not kept him clean, but at 30 with a 56 PFF score (about right, imo) we need a Beason, Morgan, Mills, Luke, etc. in the middle.  From the perspective of the Panthers switching to a 4-3 (hypothetical), MLB suddenly becomes a big need, in my view.

There is another WR who seems to be under the radar--Bech, from TCU I think.  Like Legette, had a strong SR year without doing too much before that, but his hands are great--will see how he runs.  Beck reminds me of AT, from what little I have seen

Great assessment and I agree with pretty much everything wrote.

Outside Brown and MAYBE Horn, name a player on this defense that will still be on the roster at the start of the 2027 season.

IMO, you need to add a minimum of at least 4 new starters or potential starters on defense this offseason. Anything less is going to prolong this building project from 2-3 seasons and push it out even further.

We also can't afford to whiff on our top 3 picks in the draft again, especially if any of them are defensive players.

    • Until we know what defense we will play it's hard to get behind any front 7 prospect with much confidence
    • Damn I actually like Carter and think he's one of the top 3 or so prospects in the draft. High energy player with great instincts who's super versatile and plays whistle to whistle. The ability to drop an edge back into coverage is really huge, allowing us to be creative or disguise. I don't know, I'd personally be very happy with that sort of talent if we were in the position to take him somehow.
