Interesting.  Very possible.  I am under the impression that it is on a case-by-case basis--but it is a good question.

I mean, it's such an insanely difficult thing to prove. You would have to be wildly incompetent to actually get caught doing it.

The Browns chances of beating the Dolphins go up dramatically if Tua ends up not playing, and he's now listed as doubtful.

There is a very real chance we are sitting in the 4th spot after this weekend

This is also why winning last week wasn't a good thing, as it quite possibly cost us the 3rd pick if we end up losing out, as I'm convinced the Patriots will end up winning next week.  As if the Bills beat the Jets tomorrow, they're then locked into the 2 seed no matter what happens in week 18.  When that happens, the Bills are going to be resting all of their regulars, and playing in NE against a team with a bunch of coaches and players who's jobs are on the line.

And for those who have been screaming "trade back" for a while now, being behind both the Patriots and Jags in the draft are an absolute worst case scenario for anyone wanting to trade back.  Nobody is trading up in this draft for a non QB, and there are only 2 QB's who teams are trading up to get, and the Giants will take one of them at #1 assuming they don't sneak out a win.

Winning an OT game isn't going to do anything to carry over to next year, it didn't allow us to evaluate players more than a loss in the end would have been.  This is exactly why I can't understand the "I'd rather win and enjoy it" argument over losing a game such as that.  That "joy" of winning has already worn off for those people, but sure, let's keep pretending that it wasn't a bad thing for the future of the franchise.

Nobody is saying we should purposefully play bad and lose, but wanting us to play well, be competitive, but end up not being able to pull out a win is what every REAL Panthers fan should have been hoping for over the last month or so once the season was officially shot.

What do we get by winning out besides dropping back on the draft board?

Let me guess we playing for pride!

Pride that nobody will care about starting next season. Nah give me something that can help us. Losing helps us move up in the draft.

I'm usually all in on tanking but I'm good either way this time.  I actually think it's way better if the young guys, especially Bryce looks really good the last 2 games.  That's way more important than 2 or 3 draft spots.

I agree, winning is more important. This draft also feels like 2021 for some reason to me where it'll be a few teams drafting unworthy QBs higher than they should go and pushes some really good players in that 5-15 range. 2021 had the following guys 5-15: Chase, Waddle, Sewell, Horn, Surtaine, Devonta Smith, Slater, and Parsons. Just a ridiculous amount of talent pushed down from the 3 QBs going early.

I would love to make both victims. I just don't think he's good enough to take the practice squad into Tampa and beat the Bucs when the Bucs desperately need this win. But stranger things have happened.

Ha just for fun going back to 2018 looking at where we picked and how close after us a better player was taken:

2018: DJ at 24. Lamar Jackson at 31

2019: Burns at 16. Jefferey Simmons at 19

2020: Brown at 7. Justin Jefferson at 22

2021: Horn at 8. Debatable here but Surtain at 9 (Parsons at 12)

2022: Icky at 6. Cross at 9 (still can't believe in a pass happy league we didn't draft the multi year SEC starter who comes from the air raid and gave like 2 pressures up his whole career. easy layup, thanks Fitt)

2023: nope not doing it

2024: XL at 32. Ladd at 34. (still too early to tell for sure, but based on 1 season)

That being said, just go win. Whoever we theoretically draft at pick 5, there will prob be a better player at 9 we could take. It's probably 75% luck

It's annoying how little our draft position is impacted by going 0-2 versus 2-0.

The logjam in the turd pile this year is nuts.

That’s our drafting and trading prowess. We have the number 1 pick two years in a row and all we got out of it was Bryce and less talent. Now that we need a top pick, everyone sucks and we might pick 10th. You can’t make this poo up, especially after losing out on Herbert by 1 win followed by losing out SF giving us 3 1sts for their drafting of Lance by 1 win.

I’m pretty sure that we’ll miss out on a stud by 1 pick due to a meaningless win or we’ll just fug up the pick. Unfortunately, when it comes to the draft, we still haven’t seen any improvement at all since Gettleman’s last and best draft.
