All qbs are game managers until they're not. And not many take the next step without quality around them

I agree with that--and a good game manager understands that it is his job to get the ball to better athletes at the right time.   I would even say, "All great QBs are game managers first."  What then, is the special sauce that separates game manager from elite QB?   OC/play calling, weaponry, protection.  The General, the ammo, and the armor.

And there have been teams with average QBs and loaded rosters-mainly teams with great defenses--like the 85 Bears, for extreme example, that have won it all with a game manager--but it is much better to have an elite QB....

This draft will have some decent qbs who could become a good NFL starting QB--I think of Cousins being taken with RGIII in the same draft.  I think of Brady being drafted when the Pats had Bledsoe---I hope we go after a guy like Howard from Ohio State, Rourke from Indiana, or (and people might laugh at this, but he has the skills) Beck from Georgia.

Yeah, Bryce is a game manager--that is all he was at Bama.

That is an ultimate indictment.  It's one thing to be a stud on dynasty college team full of blue chip talent driving up crazy stats, but to be just a facilitator and let the other guys eat says everything.

The whole "point guard" thing sounded very strange to me at the time.  It makes sense now though.  Bryce is never going to be that guy to put the team on his back routinely.  His bread and butter is going to be like Bama, let the play makers eat and don't make any costly mistakes.

He hasn't converted me yet to believing he's the long term answer, but he's made huge strides in making me eat crow.

I saw some pin-point throws today and over the last few games that have been really encouraging.

This is pretty much where I am.

Bryce has done a very good job the last couple months and he's earned the right to be in the conversation as the starting QB moving forward. That said, I still want another QB from the draft as well as a competitive option from FA.

Bryce is special. We are seeing all the things that made him a favorite as the #1 pick. He has sick anticipation. He has arm talent. This dude can def be a winner with a team built around him, just have to keep him healthy and put a team around him

46 yards passing first half.   Yes the dude is special

    • You got the gist of his main issue. He plays LB or whatever on D, but hates to tackle and contact. That's the summary.  I normally have a wide margin of " Hey vet min/bring him for try out/maybe he changed/etc etc". But he can not be trusted, * but he did just have his "best" season. He's like those RB that refuse to run between the tackles, bounce everything outside...they too are scared of contact. That's like the whole point of NFL, he's able to trick and athlete his way for 5 years, props to his and his agent.  Me personally I view him like virus, I wouldn't want him on film shying away from hitting while the rookies&UDFA are looking for how the Panthers do things. Plus Im the biggest sucker there is about giving former 1st, 2nd, etc another chances. Just not someone who doesn't want to play NFL and fools those with his god given gifts.  ____________________________________________________________   \ Not to add another layer to this, but I feel contact and hitting its the biggest problem for the NFL. I sorta agree with TEs, WRs, and RBs either going out of bounds or falling to the ground to avoid a solid hit(this goes out the window for 1st downs, SB, etc.) Like if a WR caught a deep slant and already gained 17 yards, but here comes a safety with a great angle, Im all for that WR to fall on the ground...... ugh...... But I think the opposite for my defense. I feel this topic is central sun hot and NFL has done a great job in avoiding it. Im surprised NFL is still allowed, I have huge doubts in the future.
    • not sure if carolina picks a WR in this draft, they have some young WR already and will let them develop. Need another vet imo.  I think carolina is going to pass more to the RB's this coming season, look for them to move heaven and earth for Cam Skatteboo.  I really hope they go TE Warren in the 1st. That would add another dynamic to this offense.
    • If we miss this guy It's as bad as last year. He is really good. Like easily  he could be Ladd Mckonnkey say that's not a good comp.
