yea but nobody is gonna sign a contract to not get paid and not play. they'll all just re-enter the draft the following year.

I don't think that's how it will go down.... even if it did that just means there would be no football in 2011, and the 2012 draft will have 2 years worth of prospects with Carolina having a top 10 pick...

All I know for a fact is that the lockout begins after the NFL Draft.

Hmmm, that WOULD make 2011's picks not worth much. But again, I doubt every owner is as sold on a lockout in 2011 as JR is, and I think we can still get something out of those picks, and I expect us to try and do so.

But back to my original point, if anything, JR would back trading 2011's picks, not try and prevent Fox and Hurney from doing so.

thats what i'm thinking. that could make for a pretty poor draft class.

already there were a ton of players that came out early to get ahead of the uncapped year at the suggestion of their agents.

there could easily be a lot of players putting off entering the NFL until 2012.

if that is the case i can think of no better year than 2011 to trade away picks.

we'll have at the least a few comp picks that can't be traded. we could trade away the first next year and still come out with 8- 10 picks in 2011.

If the players are going to sit out of the 2011 draft but are no longer elligible to play football with their respective colleges, how exactly are they going to stay sharp outside of the weight room or something? How could you count on them being as good of football players in 2012? I just don't see that many sitting out unless they still have somewhere to play football.

Who would want to trade there pick to us for next years 1st for a 2nd and say 5th? Because this draft is so deep teams will not play by the normal rules and a probable "LOCK OUT" next year. I read that they would still have the draft next year even if they have a "LOCK OUT" the only difference would be those players would most likely be under a new "Rookie cap" with the draft taking place later in the year. So with that said who would trade with us ? Believe me I want to trade up to the top of the 2nd and take the BPA that we need but this year we might not have a taker. Look ahead of us in the 2nd only teams in the 1st are trying to drop down and pick up additional picks. Unless some GM see value to trade down from the 1st and picks up a early 2nd and then trades it to us for a 1st next year because that rookie will be cheaper due to a "Rookie cap" then maybe.

The uncertainty of the lockout is lowering the value of the 2011 while at the same time raising the value of 2010 picks (witness the number of big names being traded with no one giving up a 1st).

That will make for tough sledding trying to give next year's pick(s) away for one this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see a mid second this year going for a 1st and 3rd next year.
