Geno, Baker and Darnold have the physical talent to be in this league. Bryce does not, and if he doesn't overperform, then we lose.

WTF was this team thinking selling their souls for him?

We still lose when he looks competent

I think Canales wants to draft a Qb & by playing Bryce Young that gives him the best chance of making that happen.if h

What QB? I can't see us picking top 2, I can't see a path where he has his eye on a certain Vet and will move Bryce if we can get him

Idk what Qb until after these last 3 games & the draft order is in place < then the NFL combine is over & the senior bowl & the pro days, etc

alot of the media & so called draft experts said the year Patrick Mahomes was drafted that this one of the weakest draft classes in years to draft a Qb ...LOL the Bears drafted Mitchell Trubisky who was the first Qb taken that year  then Patrick Mahomes who was drafted #10 overall  was the 2nd Qb taken & then alot of so called experts /media called it a reach because they had a second round grade on Patrick Mahomes

throw that freaking draft prospect list in the trash can & don't believe everything the media is saying right now...LOL

baker I would say is borderline

The panthers looked at him as generational iq player. People forget that drew brees was seen as pretty average until he paired up with Sean Peyton. He also put on some muscle mass.

bryce is still young. I think his number 1 priority is finding a way to gain muscle. His instincts and accuracy are there. He looks like a kid out there still.

it all goes back to my original point that he needs time to grow. His intangibles are too good for him to be this bad in my opinion. I get it if you’ve given up on him I just think that’s the entire issue with the nfl right now - teams don’t I think long term enough (and tepper is the number 1 culprit of that)

I will never understand why people continue to include Baker Mayfield in these kind of discussions. He was literally a Pro Bowler that led Cleveland to an 11-5 season and the playoffs. He threw for over 14000 yards and 92 TD's in his four years in Cleveland alone.

Geno Smith has 18500 yds and 98 TDs for his entire 11 year NFL career. Sam Darnold has 15600 yds and 92 TDs in his entire 7 year career.

Geno Smith and MAYBE Sam Darnold are examples of bust QB's that turned their careers around. Baker Mayfield was a guy that Cleveland inaccurately gave up on and then landed on the worst team in the NFL to fuel the fire that he was now a "bust." He literally had more success with a couple of days notice in LA than he did in Carolina. That wasn't him, it was us. What he is doing in Tampa is much more indicative of just a QB getting better over his career(see Allen, Josh) than him recovering from being a bust.

I am not even a big Baker Mayfield fan but this narrative has always driven me insane because it is so unbelievably and WILDLY inaccurate.

Is pretty clear he is getting next year but it would be damn criminal to not significantly upgrade the qb room and create competition.   And after the 3rd season we have to make a decision on the 5th option which creates even more uncertainty.  We are just not in a good spot and seem to have completely and totally squandered the "mythical rookie qb contract" due to his poo play and our terrible cap situation

I don't think the idea of "competition" is that valuable. Improving the room is a good idea but it's going to be tough to accomplish without massive investment. What you really are probably looking at is more so just having a valid starter when/if Bryce fails in 2025. Like Dalton, basically.

If you bank on some other backup level QB(Minshew, Howell, etc) then you are just likely to be watching a slightly better or slightly worse version of what you are replacing.

If you bank on a rookie QB(assuming not a first rounder) then you waste potentially valuable draft resources if you take him on Day 2 and likely are looking at low percentage success rate(this is the hail mary option).

This is why I am in favor of a legit veteran backup. Dalton, Darnold, someone along those lines.

I don't know think it's clear at all that he's going to get next year, especially if he plays like bad Bryce for the next three. That's likely the whole reason they've named him starter for the next three. Furthermore, there are other QBs in the league---namely Justin Fields---who we can acquire that just might push Bryce to the bench.

Perhaps I'm seeing this wrong, but I do not detect any finality at the QB position for 2025.

All this means is that he gets the last 3 games to show he's worth another year here. As for what the alternative is, I cannot see one available in FA or the coming draft that will be any better. I see next season as another 3 to 4 win season no matter what scrub they replace him with. The future looks dark for the Panthers.

Well yeah there are only 3 games left and Andy Dalton obviously has no future here whatsoever.

The fact our first overall pick can have awful games like last Sunday and the best response we have is "well we don't have anyone else that isn't terrible" is a sad state of affairs but that's your Carolina Panthers.

Which is why I think he probably gets another year regardless, just not a good year to draft another QB but they may draft one in later rounds or sign a FA to compete.
