Bryce was a huge goof, but we're basically done paying for it after this upcoming offseason cycle.  The big contracts really hurt.

That's the difference maker. Even the Broncos dumped Wilson but the Browns are stuck and the Jets still owe dummy 63 mil after '25 in dead money over 4 years.

Not sure who you mean by this, I agree it's a terrible trade and have always said that.

At the same time, as someone who went to business school I understand the concept of a sunk cost.

You have to ignore what you paid for Bryce and evaluate him for what he is or could be going forward and whether that fits your strategic plans for the organization.

That's because at this point, we have no choice. Sunk cost in this case is due to a failure of due diligence. There were many red flags pre draft, but by that time the infatuation and emotionalism had taken hold. Again, there is no hate. Its been painfully obvious to those who were paying attention. As of now, we are in a crap cycle of time and resource wasting. It's all CYA from the pro Bryce contingent, hoping he can somehow manage to live up to the hype.

I honestly don't get Lance at #1. He was taken in the covid draft, the trade up was really dumb but they also identified the issue and still traded him away while easily replacing him with a placeholder who still was good enough to get into a SB. That team has stayed a playoff team until this year and they still have double the wins of the Panthers while failing in 2024. Lance should have been #5 and move everything else up one spot. All the other moves crippled those teams from those decisions. Hell Urban had more of a negative impact than the Lance debacle on their teams.

Watson above Wilson without doubt. The guaranteed money and poo show around Watson makes it no contest IMO.

Order was 4,3,2,1 so Lance was 4 and watson was #1

I'm talking about last year.  Most QBs are ruined as rookies

Stroud's OL was pretty bad last year, too, though, and yet he had an incredible rookie year.  It's definitely worse this year.

Our OL was incredibly bad last year, but BY was, too.  And I think this board sometimes downplays how much bad QB play can contribute to sacks (though yes, OL play matters MUCH more). For instance, BY averaged 3 sacks per game in his first 2 this year. In the next 5 games (or whatever it was), Dalton averaged only 1.6.  Since returning - were we all agree BY is playing much better, though maybe we disagree how much - he is at 2/game.

So did we "ruin" Bryce? Or was he just... bad? I Dunno.

CYA? That’s a bit rich, you try to paint everyone who’s not out on Bryce yet as some blind supporters who wanted the trade. I didn’t even want Bryce but I am not going to blindly hate on him when I have seen what he can do. I am able to completely ignore that we gave up the farm for him and just evaluate him for here and now.

Back to the "hate" terminology.

Yes he would have been ruined here.

Alright let's keep it real here. None of us can say that one way or another.

All we have to go by is what Stroud and Young bring to the table from a physical standpoint and from a matchup standpoint. If we were to insert Stroud into this offense all along defenses instantly have to change their whole gameplan. He can make throws at all levels and in tight windows. He has a bigger frame so they can blitz all they want but he won't be taken down by a light gust of wind or getting a single finger laid on him. Would he have taken his lumps? Absolutely this is the Panthers. But he would be a completely different matchup behind center. That can't be understated.
