Prime Luke Kuechly vs Prime Ray Lewis

Both HOF LB's who were the best defensive players in the league at their peak. Kuechly 1x DPOTY, could have more if he played longer, also 1 SB appearance. Lewis 2x DPOTY 2x SB champion.

 

At their best, who are you taking as the franchise LB?

I'm taking Kuechly because he's my guy. Lewis was great, but he was no Kuechly. Bigger, faster, stronger. Beast!

Ray Lewis was obviously the better all-around MLB.  But Kuechly is probably the best pass coverage linebacker I have ever seen.

I dont think Ray could play in the league given the new rules..

The way Kuechly played it was good he retired early he would have had CTE for sure with a 12+ year career lol

Lewis was scarier and a bigger hitter but I think Luke was the better player. His ability to diagnose the play and audible the defense always made us a good 3rd down defense even when we had a lot of holes.

I mean, Ray Lewis the answer. 

But I would pick Luke because he is my favorite player and doesn't have the whole murder thing hanging over him.  But that's non-football stuff changing my answer. 

Luke is better built for the current era.  Ray better built for his era.

I think it was easier to play defense back in Lewis' prime. Players are just much faster now than they were then + the game has changed since then to help offenses score more easily. Hell, half of the hits Lewis dished out would probably be personal fouls now.

Lewis was definitely a harder hitter that struck fear into opposing offenses. Luke was a better all-around LB between coverage, gap control, beating RBs to the edge, etc.

Plus, I don't think anybody could read a defense like Luke. Dude knew what play the other team was running before they even lined up

Lewis but only because he had more aggression.

Luke could break down a play so fast the offense never had a chance. 

Ray could hit a player so hard he never wanted to get back up. 

In today's personal foul league, it's gotta be Luke. 20 years ago, it was Lewis. 

Though I will say the thought of TD, Lewis and Luke on the field together... well that's the stuff dreams are made of.

Interesting how your answer was totally different in this thread than the Cam vs Allen thread.

 

Both Ray and Cam had more accomplishments yet you chose Allen and Kuechly who both had less accomplishments.

 

Notice how I ride for all Panthers players not just "particular" Panthers players.

 

 

Like I said Cam was never fully embraced by Panthers fans.

Why not?  It isn't like all Ray could do was hit hard.  And prime Ray Lewis was a ridiculous athlete at the MLB position.
