Hurney press conference forthcoming

Dpantherman

The past few years our first pick has alternated between defense and offense..... This year it is time for Offense!!!!!

Seriuosly Some years the panthers have picked the board consensus... other times were all looking around like wtf when it's announced... then a few minutes later after research we start feeling good about the pick.

ive learned to expect the opposite of what i want. id like to get a stud receiver. but i dont think they will do it/

So you make calls on everything....except Jason Campbell??

Okay dokay, Marty

Realistically, there's a few hundred players they haven't made calls on. That's one name that got brought up. He also said they didn't look into Brandon Marshall or Anquan Boldin.

Hurney can be vague and evasive in press conferences, but I can't ever recall a time when he outright lied. If he says they haven't looked into it, then I'd believe it. Both Yasinskas and Chandler have said they aren't interested. Gantt believes they should be, but has never reported that they are.

Could a trade still happen? Easily. I'm just skeptical that it will given that two other QBs who fit better into what the team needs are available without having to give up a draft pick.

Why in gods name would a man, in such a responsible position as his, come on to a press conference and give answers like that! This borders on insolent and down right rude. A total disrespect to the the fans.

Because revealing info to fans also reveals it to other teams. It's not like he can call us over and say "hey, I'm going to tell you something, but keep it to yourselves".

Other teams would love to have an insight into a competitor's draft plans. That's why there was a big deal made a while back when the Cowboys were dumb enough to let a shot of their draft board go out over ESPN.

I expect him to give us something, or not come on at all! I've been on this forum since 04 and I understand that you have to keep your cards close to your vest predraft but, you would be better saying nothing than wasting everybodys time like that!

If youve been here since 04, then you know the routine. You chose to waste your time.

You'd like as many picks as you can have...It's going to be hard to give up picks."

No surprise there. Completely opposite philosophy of Dan Snyder's Redskins (and a lot of our own fans).

On need to draft QB: "Don't think we have to get anything going in...Dangerous mindset to go into draft thinking you have to get something."

That's smart, and you can tell they believe it if you've watched prior drafts. I can remember one year when we had a desperate safety need, but it never shook out to pick one.

"Grades our scouts have in the fall carry a very high weight...The offseason workouts are a piece of puzzle to match up w/ how he played."

Don Gregory's opinion probably carries even more weight now than it did when he started because he's done pretty well.

"When you go out into free agency, it's probably because you're trying to fill holes you haven't filled through the draft."

They are really serious about the "build through the draft" method.

On sitting around Thu. w/o 1st-round pick: "It's hard...I've been there before...I'm sure we'll have conversations w/ teams on Thu."

He worked for Bobby Beathard. He's seen this spot a few times.

Eh...why do we have these conferences to say nothing of importance?

I trust Hurney with this draft. I don't think we trade our 1st again. Or shall I say...I hope we don't trade our 1st again. E.Brown is a good kid, but we got hosed in the last trade.

Eh...why do we have these conferences to say nothing of importance?

If you watch the video, at the end, Hurney smiles at the reporters and says "That was informative, wasn't it?' Someone replies "It always is"

He gets it, but that's his job.

As an aside, while I think Gantt and Chandler might be better writers, I think Steve reed tends to ask some of the better questions at press conferences.
