Who replaces Evero?

I don't even care. The defense is so bad it doesn't matter what they run now because they will have to build something from scratch. Nows the time to build out the defense in whatever way they want because there's little to nothing to build on. So fire, don't fire, 3-4, 4-3, just do something.

This. The 2024 Panthers defense is a collection of meh talent for the most part and a bad scheme.

The results speak for themselves, and it's beyond putrid.

Resign Horn obviously, but the rest can be stripped to the studs and started over.

I was at the game this past Sunday as they introduced the defense thinking God I hope the majority of these guys are gone (or at least not starting) next year.

Evero needs to go, too. Not allowing Horn to shadow Lamb when he was constantly avoiding Horn and cooking everyone else should be a fireable offense.

So this has been one of my biggest concerns with Canales and it's the downside of having some young offensive guy who doesn't have full staff control. like what is the org chart for this decision?

With canales, who does he know or has worked with that he can tap? He hasn't been in Seattle in 2 seasons and all those guys are gone anyway. He wasn't even that high up on the org chart in Seattle so it's unclear who he would have regularly interacted with. QB coaches generally aren't going to be in the split squad meetings, at least not regularly. Just glancing at the coaching staff, Clint Hurt jumps out. He was DC in 2022 and is currently the dline coach in Philadelphia, but that team is the brainchild of roseman and i'd be very hesitant to bring in someone who was allowed to walk from seattle and would be having a SUBSTANTIAL decline in talent here in Carolina.

With Tampa, that defense is a shambles and fans want Bowles out. It's a very top heavy coaching staff too; Bowles is very involved so there isn't some bright up and comer, from what Bucs fans elsewhere have said.

Someone from the Bills maybe? Morgan was last there in 2020. Who could he call?

No one established is going to take that position for a few reasons. There very little talent on that side of the ball, so you're not getting the rockstar mercenaries to come here.

They're probably going to struggle to bring in some hot up and comer, since anyone with ambition is going to see how Tepper handled evero's request to interview for other positions and not want to deal with that. That's a problem the team has created on its own and I don't know how to fix it until they have someone leave for a promotion, which is going to be difficult with how dogshit this franchise is.

And then, any agent is going to tell their client that the Panthers let the whole defense eat poo heading into 2023 just to "give bryce weapons." they let two starters walk and traded away a third. who would want to come in to this? how are you going to build/retain talent?

There's only a few logical possibilities from my perspective

1. Someone out of nowhere who just crushes their interview

2. Someone from a good defense promoted WAY earlier than they should be and you just hope for the best

3. Extend Evero. I know a lot of people hate this but I think it's going to be the best option.

This is the problem with Canales as coach. I don't want to go into what I think about the offense in this post, today or as it projects, but it's just not going to be easy for him to assemble a staff, if he even has the power to do so. For all we know Morgan is handling all defensive positions and hires. unclear org charts are a hallmark sign of a poorly run organization.

I dunno. i think it's lowkey the biggest problem on the team, even moreso than the QB position.

I'm really tossed on Evero. He has had to play so many 2nd and 3rd string players I don't know if all of this is his fault.  I thought his game plan for Dallas was terrible but considering the injuries he's had to deal with on defense I'm surprised we have any wins.  His defense in the 2nd half of the Arizona game was pretty decent though things may have been different had Connor not gotten hurt.  But that's football and it was a benefit for our defense.

I also think things improved very much when DJ Wonnum finally got healthy.

If we are going to replace him it should be either a well-established DC with a history of good defenses or a young DC from a good defensive tree.  I think replacing him with a new DC from a team that is in the middle of the pack is not a good idea.

I'd like to see him one more season with a better stock of players at his disposal.  We barely addressed the defense in the draft or at least in the upper portion of the draft.

I've said before that our free agent for 2024 on the defensive side were players that would complement Brown.  When Brown went down, we didn't have a suitable replacement for him and made our free agents look like misses.

Were still in a rebuild mode so I would give him 2025 to prove 2024 was a fluke.

Unless he's getting a HC job, he'll be here next year.

Probably not a popular take, but the defense hasn't been bad the last few weeks. Run D is suspect for sure, but the passing D has been good, especially the pass rush.

Things are clicking schematically for the players. Once we get DB back and we have a chance to build a little in the off-season, we're going to have a really good D.

Am I really supposed to believe Rivera was in town just to see what's up? No, he was there for a reason and talking to the owner helps promotes the theory he may be in talks about becoming our new DC. Go back to 4-3, go heavy on the d-line in FA, draft T-Mac to give Young a true #1 receiver, another edge in the 2nd, then go BPA after that. Will Johnson if T-Mac is gone. Horn and Johnson, sheesh.
