Dissecting the offensive problems today

1. Couldn’t run the ball effectively

Zimmer took away the run game early and forced us to throw, especially when we got down early due to turnovers. Canales abandoned too early when we came out of the half he probably should’ve tried to re-establish the run

2. Pressure

Cowboys defensive line generated significant pressure without having to blitz resulting in 6 sacks and constant pressure to disrupt the rhythm between Bryce and his receivers

3. Lack of separation on deep routes

Aside from the Coker play, receivers can’t get separation quickly enough to make them pay deep for stacking the box due to #2 above. Bryce also seemed less decisive than last few weeks, not sure if he was seeing new looks that made him hesitate

4. No YAC (other than Coker TD)

Short throws were there due to two deep safeties but our receivers don’t have the ability to run after catch.  Not sure if this is also a schematic problem. Canales tried it with XL a couple of times. Conversely Dallas got a ton of YAC from similar short throws

5. Turnovers.

You can’t win in NFL if you do this. Bryce must do better.

Noticing when the OL has a bad day so does Bryce.  He had a bad read on the first int and has to protect the football at all costs.  He will get better there in time.  Cannot give yourself a chance with 4 turnovers

Canales playcalling left some things to be desired but we entered the second half down 10-7 in decent shape. The defense wasn't great but they had kept us in it. We got the ball to start the second half Bryce fumbled momentum swung to Dallas and they proceeded to score a touchdown and then our run game was out the window. Saying it was abandoned as if it was going to save us is disingenuous. Bryce Young's turnovers doomed us. That is the story of the game.

Fumble was a result of a sack on first play in second half. Should’ve run the ball instead.

Already mentioned Turnovers on #5 but you want every thread to be only about Bryce.

You’re just trolling now

Canales tried to establish a run game, hell 1st drive, went to it 2nd drive on 2nd and 5, but got nada and a penalty to make it 3rd and 10. 3rd drive of the game back to the ground, oh that ended in another turnover, INT. Following drive run again and backwards to start the drive. Then a penalty to make it 2nd and 18, sorry not running out of that one.  Following drive is the Coker TD damn didn't establish the run there dave, for shame.......

Stare the 2nd half with with a bryce fumble. We went 3 and out the next 2 drives after the fumble. Started with a run the 2nd drive of the half, as you wanted the 1st drive after seeing a fumble, and got 1 yard. What did you want another run then? In 3rd and a mile after the sack, running wasnt an option. Dallas scores a td after that 3 and out. So it was 24-7. Next drive starts with a big sack, so again want to run when it's long yardage and 2nd and 19? 3rd down was 11 yards to go, so again want to run?

Dallas scores again so it's 27-7 and now the 4th quarter. Game set match. Woohoo we got one more TD, and the string plays out. Sean that story all last year. By the 27-7 mark, games over. Dave tried to run the ball, but either it was inopportune to run more in the 1st half, or a mistake cost is the opportunity. So no way no how this is on Dave for not trying to run the ball.

Abandon the run in the 2nd half my ass. Unless you really want foxball and RR back (both are available, I wonder why) to run every 1st and most 2nd downs, we tried or it wasn't an option in the second half. So try another reason than abandoning the running game, dang troll. Stop blaming the coach for Bryce again.

So to surmise, what we passed on 1st down to start the half and your blaming that? your words ' should have run the ball instead' is post fumble (bad Bryce outcome). We get a yard like 2nd drive in the 2nd half via running it and it's back to saying the running game is putting Bryce in a bad spot. That's the song and dance we heard last year and to start the year. Can't have it both ways. That fumble was a huge swing, as was the fumble in the red zone and driving with relative ease.

1st fumble killed the momentum. Getting the ball back and scoring on the deep pass re-energized us. Fumbling on the opening drive of the 3rd killed us and what is left of the defense quit.

  • Canales tried running the ball.
  • Dallas stacked the line
  • Coker beat them deep
  • Dallas started switching up stunts
  • Bryce got confused on his protections
  • Bryce starts getting hit and turns ball over
  • Panthers D quits
  • Dumbass falls back into melancholy mode and starts dinking/dunking again.

If you go back and look at some of the replays, a lot of the pass protections are on Bryce not recognizing it and adjusting at the line. Same reason he got benched in week 2.

When Bryce worries about his blind side, it’s a wrap. He knows physics. He’s 180 lbs, max, but even that number is in question. A 240 lb grown ass man tearing off on a small guy from behind… there’s going to be something wrong with him afterwards.

This team desperately needs a true LT. Ickey ain’t it. Trade him (controversial.. but he’s very replaceable). If there is a blue chip LT in the draft, get him. No QB will thrive when a speed rusher gets home like they do off of Ickey.

You’re just trolling now

You offer a list numbered 1-5 and put turnovers last yet you're supposedly seeking meaningful dialogue?

Posts that poke holes in your narrative because they highlight inconvenient truths = trolling in your eyes.

But it's okay for you to stay up late making excuses for Bryce Young. Clearly some of ya'll are more invested in running interference for this kid like you're one of his parents than actually establishing a winning football franchise again.

    • I would.  He isn't a dependable LT. He would be a Pro Bowl Guard but he just doesn't have the agility to keep up with some of these Edge Rushers. You really don't want to pay this guy LT money for a job he is "okay" at. He isn't going to want to move to G because the market isn't as high. We also have 2 really expensives Gs right now. I'm surprised they haven't tried moving Lewis to C, he has played there before, would allow you to move Ekwonu to LG.
    • My top 3 are: Robert Saleh Lovie Smith Leslie Frazier However realistically I think the Top 3 are: Ken Norton Jr.  Aaron Curry Kacy Rodgers Norton did a better job than Clint Hurtt in his time as DC in Seattle. He at least had a Top 10 unit a few times. Curry is a promising candidate and has a lot of upside. I think Kacy Rodgers is underestimated as well. He has developed a lot of young players and the one spot on Tampa's D that hasn't fallen backwards is their DL/Run D.
    • This may have been said repeatedly on here, but I have not seen it nor do I read 8 pages of posts when it is mostly shirt talk because people do not respect another's opinion-- If the Panthers somehow pick third (and I see it as a possibility) they will take Travis Hunter, and in my view, he needs to play WR.  Imagine Hunter as the #1, Thielen, Coker, XL as outside weapons.  I am guessing that Sanders (TE) improves and we could try to sign Mike Jackson (CB) to a longer deal- However, I see the Giants, Raiders, and Patriots picking at the top of the draft.  Hunter will be in New England in all likelihood.  The Raiders, however, have a shot to lose a game.  Tonight vs. Atlanta in Vegas, they could upset the Falcannots.  They then play Jax on the 22nd--at home--and they should be favored.  Then on to New Orleans--a slim chance at a victory--and then the Chargers--who will likely have a playoff spot clinched without a first round bye.  I do not know if Harbaugh would rest his starters, but he should. Jax is ahead of us now, but they finish with Vegas, Tennessee, and Indy.  Surely the win one of those, but if not, they will pick after the Pats.  We want them to lose to Vegas, beat Tennessee or Indy.
