What is the identity of this team?

Poverty franchise. Non-existent defense, offense that plays well against terrible defense, and collapses against decent to good defense in most cases. Inconsistent QB who is way undersized. Good o-line. Overall roster talent level - low. Results: 3 - 12.

There is no quick way out of this mess. We need a #1 WR, and many positions on defense. The scheme is just not working and we need to get out of the 3-4 forever.

Outside of Horn the entire secondary should be upgraded over time. Our safeties are not good at passing off coverage because they're just not that bright, so the deep pass is a real problem. We need a #2CB so we don't get eaten alive by the star WRs of the NFL who move to the opposite side of Horn. We can't let them go off on our trash DBs.

Up front on defense we're in nightmare territory. Outside of Clowney we don't have linemen who can catch any QB in the NFL even if the QB is running at half speed. Even the slowest QB in the NFL running at half speed would have no trouble avoiding our d-line. And what we lack in speed what don't make up for in strength, and to complicate the problem we're playing 3-4. And when we rush 4 nothing happens. Nothing.

Get out of the 3-4. No more. 3-4 only works if you have a monster ogre NT and two werewolves on either side, and athletic OLBs who can fly to the QB. We don't have that and we can't acquire all of that. Go to 4-3. We have Brown at DT, draft another pass rushing DT, and draft a DE to pair with Clowney. Now you have a decent front 4 that can pressure the QB and hold up against the run. What we have now is slow fat blobs and Clowney. Also Brown would be better served playing a DT in a 4-3 than NT or DE in a 3-4 imo. Brown and Clowney are best suited for DT and DE in a 4-3 imo.

You and I must be kindred spirits. 😃

I just brought this up in reply to a question on a different thread around the same time you posted your reply. I'll paste my post below.

"Mason and (a healthy) Brown would gives us a formidable interior defensive presence, but we'd need to find some 4-3 ends that could get to the passer and set the edge on running plays. If we went 3-4 we'd have to find some OLB/DE hybrids that could get upfield on passing plays...but also drop into coverage at times. Mason and Brown could work at DE in that scheme, but we'd still need to find a monster to man the point at NT. This is "arguably" the biggest question facing the defensive side of the ball this year."

Here's the sad fact, we don't have the talent to play either scheme right now.

    • Young will have these last three games to show that he can shake the Cowboys game off and get it out of his head. Dealing with the stress of being QB 1 cannot be to big for him. Interested to see what he does with the rest of the season. As of right now, he is still a big question mark and even more so after the last game. He needs to bring it and show that he can be the guy. If not, then that throws a wrench into the draft. Having to spend a high draft pick on another QB, would not be ideal by any means. Opinions please.....
    • I'll say it, and I'm not a race baiter or any of that other nonsense people allude to after truth is told. One is black and one is white. Cam came into the league and set rookie passing records. Josh Allen couldn't hit the broad side of a barn until almost year three. People still insist Cam threw high, but we forget he reignited the career of a 5'9" WR named Steve Smith Sr.  Cam's celebrating was seen as disrespectful and showboating. Allen's celebrating is seen as just good clean fun and exuberance. Cam shredded his shoulder trying to tackle a defender on an interception, but people still post GIFs of one time Cam didn't jump on a fumble anytime anyone mentions his name on social media. I have seen Allen throw picks and jog or walk back to the sideline and never be questioned by fans or media. Both had a veteran WR subtracted from their roster and had MVP seasons close after. You could argue that the MVP Allen is most likely to receive this year should go to S. Barkley, but Philly has robbed him of 12 or so TDs with that brotherly shove play. One was not protected at all by the league, and one gets flags thrown all the time. I seen this debate get really ugly last year on Facebook with fans acting like Cam was Trey Lance compared to Josh Allen and look how many posters who seen prime Cam chime in here to say Allen. Allen has gotten better every year making a monumental leap in year three, is on a tear this year, but he still hasn't gotten to the chip like Cam. Below is an excerpt from an article by Greg Howard during Prime Cam years and it still rings true today. We can act like we are past it, but we still have a long way to go in America.   When you're a public figure, there are rules. Here's one: A public personality can be black, talented, or arrogant, but he can't be any more than two of these traits at a time. It's why antics and soundbites from guys like Brett Favre, Johnny Football and Bryce Harper seem almost hyper-American, capable of capturing the country's imagination, but black superstars like Sherman, Floyd Mayweather, and Cam Newton are seen as polarizing, as selfish, as glory boys, as distasteful and perhaps offensive.
    • You can tell who drives F150s around here. Only those people would think Allen is better when he hasnt even sniffed a SB.
